Lorry over the edge on the A628

What a road, got to honest would love to have a crack at that, there would be a big Que of traffic behind me though.

I enquired about he drivers health as I was leaving work to be told he was okay and would be until the day driver got hold of him. It wasn’t put quite like that but you get the drift.
The Woodhead pass is my favourite road, but it can be iffy at times. My first experience of it a truck was pretty much like Slowlanes, dark windy and slinging it down with rain not long after passing my test. I did have the advantage of having ridden over it many times on a motorbike.

It wasn’t one of the brothers , lee or William was it , assuming there still there and you work for nwt

I did Woodhead Pass twice a day for 3 years moving flour from Peterborough to McVities in Stockport… difficult yes but just treat it with care

Jesus. I spent most of my 45 in glossop this morning debating whether to take the A628 back to Barnsley, or head back up to the M62.
I eventually decided on the latter, because (a) I don’t know that road very well, but seem to remember some ‘interesting’ bends on the few times I’ve taken a car on it, and (b) I’m hourly paid…

Come past it again this morning at 7.30 and the truck still hasn’t been recovered.

I’d imagine they’ll leave it til Sunday as the roads gonna be closed for a while during recovery.

Yeah, I was thinking the same mate. Off to Chesterfield next so I won’t be going back over anyway.

If that container is full it’s gonna take some gear to get it moved…that’s if the locals don’t empty it beforehand

They will only loot it if it’s full of false teeth and dog food mate.

Won’t they be throwing spears/rocks/their own faeces at it instead?

I
It was one of the night drivers but I haven’t a clue who. They have a lot of night drivers and these days I know very few of them and yes I work there .

A 628 closed on Sunday from 6 am to 3 pm for recovery of nwt truck.

Saw this the other day.

Couldn’t help but think about it as it started snowing in Sheffield and I had to come to back over to Warrington. Got another run tonight but I think I will just take the long route over the M62 and then down the M1.

If you’re running between Warrington and Sheffield I wouldn’t bother with Woodhead , unless you fancied a bit of scenery. There is less chance of getting held up on the 62 and there is every chance on the 628.

I’m fascinated if anyone can get some of the recovery shots. It looks like the perfect training nightmare scenario.

Really? Held up on the ■■■■ M60 in the roadworks, held up at Halifax, Huddersfield, Brighouse, Batley… give me the Woodhead every time, 60/62 is a complete joke.

For the real drivers,go via Glossop and the Snake Pass A57 if time is not a factor.

+1.

Used to do it two or three times a week early mornings. Needs respect. Had many a time cars and trucks flashing me and trying to get round in ludicrous conditions. It’s too easy to be bullied into a speed that just isn’t safe.

As has been said as long as the driver is ok the rest is paperwork.

+1, too

Also, a run over Woodhead is a good chance to actually drive the truck, not just attend the steering wheel. It also keeps your hand in at cursing, as you have to keep fighting to keep the truck in manual instead of it reverting to eco, just in time for it to block change at low revs half way round a tight bend :unamused:
