Iâve lost faith in the police. They installed cctv on lamp post outside my house when my neighbour assaulted me. It was there for six weeks. All good you think until the retards never came to position it and it pointed straight to the floor for the whole time despite constant phone calls.
WorksopPolice:
We understand that not all of the suggestions are applicable all of the time. They are general considerations for drivers to try and help themselves. Nottinghamshire Police have commenced an operation to try and reduce the thefts and there will be increased patrols for the key times/areas.
If what you say is true that is a step forward, visual policing is what is needed to discourage these â â â â s.
At least it is better than what the Police did at Knottingley ind est on the old A1 opposite Ferrybridge servs, after a spate of fuel thefts a few years ago. Instead of actively policing the area they opted for the easy option of discouraging truckers parking by ticketing them through night for parking with out lights (on a site that would put Blackpool to shame as far as lighting goes) I was one of them, and it put Police/truck driver relations back about 10 years
I hope you start this and continue it along with other regional forces until it becomes nationwide, although I canât help feeling it is just a PR exercise/gesture, I hope you prove me wrong.
Just to redress the balance of the negative experiences, I have had 2 occasions where I have had to call out the Police, one in Brighouse, one at Whitley Bridge, 20 mins, and 10 mins respectively, so not all bad, and they did get somebody at W. Bridge also.
Not many people have much respect for the police anymore. More and more bent coppers are being brought to justice recently.
What about the bent bast*rd who smacked the tooth out of the lad at the London riots? Real hero that one.
Quite amusing that the â â â recorded his own disgraceful behaviour.
Maybe this thread should not turn into a Police slagging fest eh? At least IF what they say is true it is a start, and they didnât HAVE to come on here to make a point.
I am not an apologist for the police by any means, in fact I have slagged them many times for things like their cameras before policing policy that they have adapted, but at least give this a chance and letâs wait and see if anything works for us.

The reason for that is the many people in this country have adopted the American thing of suing someone for whatever reason. The police need to cover their collective asses.
I agree with you Robroy regarding negative responses. But what exactly is it that we need to give a chance?
There is nothing in that â advice â drivers donât already know. The facts are that if a lorry driver reports that someone is hanging around their truck, the chances are that NOTHING will be done. The scrotes arenât even bothered about plod. They have their hands tied a lot because of lawyers and human rights etc etc.
The police are in general a toothless dog. One which doesnât bother to come when you whistle.

I am inclined to agree with you up to a point, even though as I said 2 of my truck crime experiences with the Police were of reasonable response times.
After saying that I have read the other ladâs experience on another thread who was attacked, and the Policeâs attitude was â â â â poor at best and downright bloody pathetic at worst, so swings and roundabouts I reckon.
The âgive it a chanceâ bit I referred to was their pledge to do what they are paid for at last,âŚactually police the known hot spots, and I still stand by it.
If it is a load of wind and â â â â , well then slag them off, but at least give them a chance to show they are serious.
One of the problems is that police funding has been cut massively by the government, so there just arenât that many police around. Itâs almost like they have become a response organisation, i.e. not actively patrolling much anymore.
Certainly out in the deep countryside itâs very unusual to see a cop car and has been for many years.
People say not to take things into your own hands (See the re-training thread) but I think the temptation might be too much at times. I think it depends on the situation as it develops.
If I was standing at an ATM say and some scrote grabbed my cash or card, Iâm sure Iâd run after the â â â â and deck the bugger. I couldnât help myself Obviously if there was a knife Iâd think twice but if it was some chancer Iâd give it a go
Not smart but itâs the principle for me.
On the other hand dealing with thieves stealing fuel at night on your own say could be asking for trouble. Itâs a bit like road rage - once you open the door and get out itâs only going one of two waysâŚ
If you donât own the truck or fuel yourself then you might as well leave them to it. Get the crime number for your gaffer to show you have gone through the motions.
I for one shall certainly take on board the advice you have given.
Perhaps commercial vehicles can be fitted with a panic alarm button which connects to the police.
The police donât bother if your house or office is broken into, so an
Alarm on a truck is just nonsense.
The police canât be arsed, I went past a layby (opposite side) there was a dodgy looking Ford â â â â â â behind a truck, he put a single flashing beacon on his roof, then a van pulled into the layby (also old and dodgy looking). It appeared he âSignalledâ the other vehicle because he found a âCustomerâ
Phoned the details in on 101 and they didnât seem bothered. It could have been nothing, it could have been something, but I like to think that if something like this is reported, at least they can drive past to have a look.
If you are not prepared to investigate calls of suspicious activity in laybyâs, what more do you want us to do?

I was clutching at straws after getting done over and having petrol thrown in my face on an industrial estate while on a night out last week m8.

Feel for you mate. A pretty nasty experience which I hope you can get work through. I didnât mean to be dismissive, and I know some have âpanicâ alarms fitted for some types of load, but the police seem to take a stance of not getting involved if they donât have to - not high profile enough, wonât make a name for themselves. Although they soon find resources to track down someone who said something unfavourable on-line or said something on the terrace on a Saturday afternoon.
surely the plodposting here has to be the equivelant of those gantry signs telling us to âdrive sensiblyâ and other such advice of rivetting importanceâŚperhaps if your emergency phone call said, theres male deisel faries at my truck who look to be white indigenous uk residents, non gay,and definately not of diddycoy or flipflop origin and dont appear to be redheaded single fathers, then they might be there in 2 mins instead of 2 hours as they could actually go through the motions of catching someone without the ensuing crap that invariebly followsâŚoh how i have fond memories of the good old days when you knew that after you were arrested what would follow would be shoved into a cell with a mattress held against you,a good kicking and a roll and sausage for breakfastâŚ

I know you wasnât being funny m8.
Itâs just that driving and stopping out in these things makes us all so vulnerable.
I partly asked for it as I should never have got out and should have found somewhere more secure to begin with.
Itâs a painful lesson learnt.
My firm promised to keep me local for a while and the have.
Itâs helping.
Stay safe bud.

I think in the same circumstances most of us would react in the same way, I know I would have, and I couldnât punch a hole through a custard, I think itâs a standard reaction. Any other time getting out might have just spooked them enough. Put it down to experience.

Perhaps you should have informed plod that the suspicious characters were in an untaxed vehicle with bald tyres and had been driven in excess of the speed limit whilst a mobile phone was being used! It seems the budget for âroad safetyâ is much larger than the budget for preventing other offences.
the only time police are interested in hgvâs are for speeding or overloading to make money for the xmas ball not to actually help prevent crime
Itâs always been a issue around the area to many ways out. Got the local gypsy wannabe estates within 5 mins drive. plus another estate. Just so happens a local who was put away for it is back out fee weeks ago and thefts of diesel gone up again but hey I ainât casting assumptions but common sense prevails surely.
Donât help all offices are running back and forth half hour to Mansfield as worksop does not have a custody suite no longer. Drive down the a619 and a60 thatâs where you find all the plod
It would help if drivers stick together once upon a time sound horn and you would have every other driver get out stand there now they just close curtains and let you get good hiding
