Lorry fuel thefts in Nottinghamshire

Over the past few weeks we have seen an increase in fuel thefts and curtain side thefts from Lorries parked in laybys on the A1 in Nottinghamshire.

We ask that all drivers are vigilant and report any suspicious activity on 101 or 999 in an emergency.

In addition we would request that where possible you take steps to reduce your risk of becoming a victim of theft and where possible:

• Park in a well lit, well used area
• Try to park with your fuel tank facing the road so passing traffic make it less of a target
• When parking in a lorry park, try to park very close to the next lorry so the fuel tanks are difficult to access
• Devices can be fitted to the filler cap that activate the vehicle’s alarm when tampered with, also consider anti syphon devices.
• Always try and park in areas monitored by CCTV

It’d also help if there was enough affordable truck parking in our country that had working cctv and a security guard. Not just number plate recognition cameras that are there to ticket you.

• Park in a well lit, well used area

I want to sleep, NOT be kept awake.

• Try to park with your fuel tank facing the road so passing traffic make it less of a target

So you want me to face the wrong way on a duel carriageway

• When parking in a lorry park, try to park very close to the next lorry so the fuel tanks are difficult to access

I wouild like to open the door and get out, so would the other driver

Many jobs could be created by employing a man in a van with a huge guard dog as a deterrent against fuel theft and trailer slashing.
The word would go out for thieves to avoid a
Particular truck stop.
A German Shepherd, Doberman or Rottweiler would put the fear of God in anyone on the rob.

We understand that not all of the suggestions are applicable all of the time. They are general considerations for drivers to try and help themselves. Nottinghamshire Police have commenced an operation to try and reduce the thefts and there will be increased patrols for the key times/areas.

Typical trucknetuk reaction, the police go to the trouble of putting up some good advice and what do they get back, yes the usual crap, what is wrong with you people■■?

Suggestions to prevent fuel theft and our professional members ■■■-■■■ it. Perhaps each truck getting its own armed guard would suit some of you? :unamused:

Park the wrong way on a dual carriageway? Who said face the other way?
You want to get out,so does the other driver? Well use the other door then. Trucks have two
Well lit area keeps you awake? If your curtains dont stop light getting in then you can change them

your never going to be 100% safe from the deisel fairies but surely the advice given is at least worth trying if possible, not treated with the disdain and sarcasm shown

Very well put.

I for one shall certainly take on board the advice you have given.
Perhaps commercial vehicles can be fitted with a panic alarm button which connects to the police.
I know it’s a strange thing to surgest but please read my thread WHAT WOULD YOU DO TO RETRAIN AS on here and you’ll get my reasoning.

I’m waiting for the day I actually see a police patrol car on the A1 on a night time other than when there’s been an accident. I’ve been going from Howden to London down the A1 on nights for two decades and I cannot recall the last time I saw a police car on the A1 from South Mimms services all the way up to A1M J35. Given the times I come back up are spread over a 4hr difference so its not the sametime every single night, the law of averages says I should’ve seen one at least once but I’ve not seen any in either direction.

You used to see them parked up in Bloody Oaks services just north of Stamford on a night time around 1am having a brew but they’re not even there anymore.

Scrotes know that there’s basically no chance of a copper on the A1 at night so they’re free to do what they want.

SWEDISH BLUE:
• Try to park with your fuel tank facing the road so passing traffic make it less of a target

So you want me to face the wrong way on a duel carriageway

Stuff it up a hedge, or even by a sign pole.

Then again I wouldn’t listen to me, home every night :unamused:

What about the crimes in your own public area?.Why have the Police not commenced an operation to stop house burglary car break ins sadly the police don’t turn up anymore, but you can have a crime number, left wide open for fraud.
I did how ever note that this post is for crimes against business that will be the reason for commencing an operation more patrols ect ect.Makes you think eh?.

Have a read at steve66’s thread about retraining and you’ll realise it’s not just about theft from businesses this affects

No doubt there are companies that would charge a driver for the fuel that was stolen.

Reminds of many years ago when I worked on the buses in Brixton, a conductor was assaulted and taken to hospital. London Transport were more concerned about their ticket machine than the welfare of their employee.

Mate and I parked our bikes outside Leamington Police station one night on way to have a few beers. Consious of taking steps to lower crime rates in the community and making sure i wont just be riding home on a front wheel, we chained the bikes to their railings. Went inside, mentioned I’d chained them up and could they keep an eye on it if they happen to be passing in and out (cheeky I know but don’t ask you don’t get).

They said they didn’t mind…but they wouldn’t be responsible if they were stolen. . Bless em

Is Sepp BLatter not in charge of the police in Worksop

keep a bat next to your cab door so you can knock them out, if you see them pinching your fuel :grimacing:

I phoned the Police one night to tell them that there were people stealing my fuel right now. They said “Sorry Sir, we are very busy at the moment, we won’t be able to get there for three hours”.

So I phoned them back and said “Don’t worry about it, I’ve got a gun and I’ve killed them all”.

Five minutes later, there were eight cars, two vans, four motorbikes, thirty coppers and a Police helicopter there. :stuck_out_tongue:

You two make me owl with laughter.
