Lorry crashes off M42 flyover onto M6 Toll

M6 toll crash The ambulance service said the lorry driver had an “amazing” escape.

A lorry has left a flyover on the M42 and crashed onto the M6 Toll.

The accident happened at Coleshill, Warwickshire, near junction T1 on the northbound carriageway of the M6 Toll just before 18:30 GMT.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said the lorry driver, a man in his 50s, had an “amazing” escape.

He was treated for serious lower leg fractures, and airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, a spokesman said.

The accident has closed the M42 northbound between junction 7A and junction 9, and the M6 Toll northbound between junction T1 and the M42.

An ambulance service spokesman said: “Miraculously there were no cars passing at the time - it would have been far worse if there had been.”

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service said 1,200 litres (263 gallons) of diesel had leaked onto the carriageway after the accident.

An investigation is under way into whether another vehicle was involved on the M42, a Warwickshire police spokesman said.

The lorry was empty at the time of the crash, he added.

Sounds like one of our european neighbours… 1200 litres ofdiesel, unless it was a tanker.

Thats one way of not paying for the toll.

Now if bob hadn’t been held up at the pumps for 5 minutes, he might have been squashed by a flying blue wagon…

I’m sure that Teedledee and Tweedledumber from CSI Trucknet will be along later to tell us how and why it happened.

Oh wait… Nobody died so maybe they won’t.

Looks like a bit of a air smoothing type bubble on the headboard of the trailer? Like it’s a tall one that sticks above the cab’s air spoiler? Therefore I’d say UK, and someone is overestimating the diesel…

1200 litres, you’d be hard pushed to get a euro wagon with tanks that big surely?

They’ll still be along to tell us all what happened and what mistakes the driver made.

Sometimes our trailers look like that when people haven’t bothered to put the side bars back in

Ok am I blind but there’s no barriers missing on the bridge and
no marks on the embankment

Looks like one of Swains to me. They’ve got 4x2 Scannys, which could be carrying up to iirc 1500 litres.

Glad the driver is OK :open_mouth:

Mine holds 1,600

Is there no longer a 1000 Litre limit?

Think it was either C+U Regs or ADR Regs, thats why you see polish etc. lorries with 2 mahoooosive tanks on a 4x2 unit and a orange ‘diamond’ on the side of the cab, as it is over 1000 litres.

Shouldnt be allowed at all, they should arrive in the UK with empty tanks and pay the fuel duty like everybody else does.

It might have been like on the A team where the Jeep flies over. He must have driven up the back of a Delorean when the guy opened the door to say ‘oi get off my roof’ and accidentally flipped the truck over the barriers and grass to land as it did. Then buggered off which is why the police are looking for them.

I passed this today coming back from London. There is definitely a gap in the barriers  . It’s not a very very big gap mind, almost like who ever was driving hit the barrier head on
