Left Norwich at 6 this morning heading for Chelmsford, traffic news says the northbound carriage way on the A12 is closed between jct 20/24 due to a lorry going thru the central reservation. By the time I got there the traffic was backed up to the Colchester exit, I could have run to Chelmsford quicker it was that bad, anyway got to the scene and it’s not looking too good. Unable to see if it was a local or foreign lorry but it was a fridge unit and a white xf105. I hope the driver is ok but it wouldn’t appear so judging by the damage. It seems to my untrained eye that it was a blowout that caused it but I’m only speculating based on the trailer missing a tyre and one being on the road about 200m before the smashed reservation.

It is a Felixstowe Haulier 40’ container on the back, regocnised the company name as I went by. Hopefully the driver might have got away with cuts and bruises, but as said the damage to the cab is quite severe.

Originaly they had the road closed both ways, and they were giving that out on the radio at 0530. I think if I’d have been leaving Norwich at 0600, and heard that on the radio, I’d have dropped down to Bury from Scole island and made my way to Chelmsford via Sudbury, but each to their own
Surprising how many HGV’s were traveling along the old london road beside the A12 to Hatfield Peveral(nth bnd), bearing in mind the A12 was shut at the boreham interchange, diversion via braintree. I suppose some may have going to Witham which after all is such a large metropolis. I think many will have had to turn back and just follow the flow
Interesting that driver been arrested for drink/drugs. On Facebook, the HA are being slated for not opening the road before 1800. This is by people who know nothing about the incident, which is probably Police led not HA led, they don’t know if recovery have to unload the vehicle first, if the road needs resurfacing because of fuel spill. The barrier needs to be replaced before road can be opened.
If the driver gets charged perhaps the driver is the one who should get slated??

Sometimes those wombles cant get anything right , at least they’re giving an estimate off when to expect normal service, that container is going to be 20t +, that takes a fair crane to lift that. These would be the same people that would complain if they had to pay to that sort of equipment standing just waiting fir that one job. If that cargo leaks they’l probably have to pump out all the storm drains, all takes time to organise, to add to what you’ve allready stated

Oh dear, drinking/drugs suspected to be involved, they’ll have a field day with that.
Yep, glad I’m sitting here and not were that guy is.
‘’ Sometimes those wombles cant get anything right ‘’
The Wombles don’t patrol the A12. They might assist near the M25 but not as far up as this incident, so I don’t think they can be blamed on this occassion.

I wasnt blaming them, just the opposit, some people are never satified, the road was completly blocked with a 40’ container yet apparently some were blaming the HA for not getting it open, even though it was a mammoth task and they’d given an estimate, which by the way was far more pessamistic, becuase it was open including new barriers by 3pm when I came back up.
Everyone saying they hope he gets the book thrown at him
How many of you have take cold or flu stuff or hay fever stuff , Its the same thing
remember if you get pulled drink and drugs includes a vast amount of over the counter drugs for simple ailments
True but usually cold/flu/hayfever medication has a warning not to use heavy machinery on the packet also we are real men/women so don’t need namby pamby placebo over the counter meds.
Chances are he got tested at the hospital after doctors consent.
Although after a session on the beer the night before he could have felt fine to drive but still be over the legal limit.

I very much doubt he got arrested for drinking lemsip! Even if he was taking vast amounts of hay fever meds that made him unfit to drive then he shouldn’t have been driving. End of.

Looks like a Maritime skelly with a subbie?
Nope. a felixstowe haulier with a good sized fleet. begins with a f is all im saying.
This is still a prominent story in the East Anglian Daily Times.
My [limited] understanding is that FLS are a truck and trailer hire company as opposed to being a haulier in their own right? The truck was also carrying the livery of ‘Supreme Freight’ who seem to be a freight agency of some sort.
