Why not just take a little less that way you can throw a strap over.
Ye it’s silly but if it’s the rules it’s the rules. Like the twitter account said ‘driver’ reported. Not the company.
Maybe then the companies might do something but atm it’s the drivers taking the risk.
Ye you would have to take less of a load and you would have to put something on top to prevent it breaking but it’s doable.
Allow me to point you to exhibit A the dunnage is polystyrene. FFS
Personally, I’m waiting for them to have a chipliner in and force the driver to open the curtain.
This is mostly a case of silly woman, from HSE with no real world load securing experience, giving a course to a load of cops, who’ve for some reason got time on their hands, and no real world load securing experience, equals they all make right ■■■■ of themselves and also turn the credibility of the enforcement authorities into a joke.
Hadn’t thought of them opening a chip liner that would be ace
I’d actually love to be the driver that happens to. “Open your curtains driver”…gladly Officer. Then stand and watch 20 odd tons of ■■■■ go all over the vosa station. There you lads sort that out yourselves
i need to keep my licence boss, please take the overload off
no can do son, the job needs to pay
well boss, take it off or i walk out right now and take you to court for constructive dismissal
go ahead son
bye.
and i won the court case…
Well done , thats what this industry needs. I am all for getting the job done and doing my bit towards keeping the boss in business, but without your licence, you are unemployed.
instructing you to take a illegal load out and not backing down is constructive dismissal, as you have no choice but to walk away to comply with the law.

I’ve stood in a transport office many a time whilst on agency work and argued with the pointy shoe boy’s about load restraints.
“Yes you do have a choice.”
It’s having the balls to decide it…
If the company continues to make life difficult for me, then I just inform the DVSA.
A couple of photos of the vehicle in question plus the load and lack of restraints etc on a strongly worded email to the DVSA usually gets the results I want.

another fine example as to why your average british workmans attitude has led to the demise of british industry.
perfect emloyee attitude there,no doubt youve got the vosa hotline on speed dial?
it must be a great feeling being billy big balls outside a traffic office when you dont have a job to lose.
is that why your on agency work then?

at least you were working for an employer with balls.
theres obviously the logic that he was glad to see the back of you for that course of action to be taken?

I used to have VOSA on my phone about 20 year ago, I I deleted them a long time ago when they were no longer viable.
I updated them wiith the relivent number for DVSA (Driver Vehicle and Standards Agency) maybe you should look them up.

Billy big balls inside the office…not outside!
I pity those in full time employment to be honest! Taking illegle trucks out, loads not restrainted etc I see it everyday.
50yr old blokes bulleyed by a 20 yr old in pointy shoes.
It’s pittyfull.

ive never had any need to look up how to contact them.
they seem to be able to find me anytime they want,so theres never any need for me to be calling them.
im curious to the response time from when you send them a “strongly worded email” as to when someone actually replies to you.
do you just wait outside the factory gates till they do,then wave your phone at the trafic office window?
or do they just let you know that because of your “strongly worded complaint”,they went in the next day at 4a.m with a hit squad and 643 charges are now pending when the owners appear for some tea and biscuits?
id imagine any company would be as interested in a limpers opinion as wondering how many seagulls are sitting on their roof.
the biggest hassle would be lifting the phone to the agency and having to tell them not to send you back.

The biggest hassle is these dinosaur hauliers thinking they can do anything they want willynilly.
Iam here to change that approach.
Accept change, you will be better for it, plus it protects your vocational licence.
well ive had about 40 years of protecting my own licence whilst still running as bent as suits meso i think il just continue as ive always done with gay abandon thankyou.
looks like apart from fridge engineers, various ex forces gods, driving gods who never need to drive other than to pass the time, agency warriors on 4 times the pay structure and anyone else, then we now have a protector of all things transported load security god.
im sure many will sleep more soundly knowing that you are fighting the never ending fight for the underdog truckie that dares to take out something not entirely to vosa rulebook.
fight the good fight my man,and keep giving us a laugh while your doing it…

drove past carlisle weighbridge a year ago and a jenkinson truck with a chipliner on was sat there with curtains open and a load of woodchip on the deck all around it. spoke too a jenkinson driver a few weeks later who said it happens quite regular with the young dvsa officers
