Looks Like They're Having a Purge on Load Security PART 2

Why not just take a little less that way you can throw a strap over.

Ye it’s silly but if it’s the rules it’s the rules. Like the twitter account said ‘driver’ reported. Not the company.
Maybe then the companies might do something but atm it’s the drivers taking the risk.

Ye you would have to take less of a load and you would have to put something on top to prevent it breaking but it’s doable.

Allow me to point you to exhibit A the dunnage is polystyrene. FFS

Personally, I’m waiting for them to have a chipliner in and force the driver to open the curtain.

This is mostly a case of silly woman, from HSE with no real world load securing experience, giving a course to a load of cops, who’ve for some reason got time on their hands, and no real world load securing experience, equals they all make right ■■■■ of themselves and also turn the credibility of the enforcement authorities into a joke.

You should of let him!

I did wish I had, knowing my luck I’d have had to sweep the lot up

It could be a trailer full of candy floss; if the law says it has to be secured/strapped then that is what has to be done.
Don’t get me wrong it is stupid. But read police wrote.
“Insulation board rammed in. Unfortunately there was no room to get the strapping over the load so they didnt bother! Driver reported.”

It’s this type of stuff that is making me want to leave driving. Where is the RHAs voice in all this btw?

The law most definitely states nothing like that.

Pic bloke and pointy shoes lifiing a box.

Nice to see one of them.in a hi viz. And good to see there both wearing safety shoes just in case.

Tbf mate there are ways and means of strapping a high load like that,.
Hook on the chassis, strap thrown diagonally up to opposite side to roof and thrown completely over the roof.
The packs will then push the strap over themselves whilst they are being loaded, then you get a pole (not the Polish type  ) and pull end of strap down and ratchet it up…job sorted. :sunglasses:

We used to bring packs of plastic pipes over in cases with half an inch clearance to Euroliner roof, using that method to secure them.

However…that aint the point, fact is that load does not NEED strapping in realworld. :bulb:

This is a good approach robroy. Unfortunately I tried asking about doing this somewhere (load not quite to the roof but was a ballache trying to throw straps through the gap) but I was told that I couldn’t be out the cab during loading so some sites might not like this method.

Yeh there are a lot of sites like that :unamused: , but it is possible to set up the straps in this way after you open the curtains, before they start loading, then pull down the strap ends with a hook or pole when loaded.
Maybe you’ve misunderstood what I was trying to explain…)badly  )

Rob, I know what you mean, but that only works if the pallets/packs are loaded from one side (opposite from where the strap is hooked) and pushed across.

The fact is those who enforce the law don’t live in the real world.
We are talking about people who think wearing a high vis over a high vis means your twice as safe.

LETS NOT FORGET THIS IS HOW THEY WANT US TO LIFT A BOX.

Note* If you do not have a pointy shoe prick on hand please wait for one to be available before attempting to lift any box.

EDIT:

I REALLY HOPE WE DONT HAVE ANOTHER WAR.      THE HSE would have a field day.

I hate overzealous H&S ■■■■■■■■ as much as the next man, but some of it, is common sense. Not bending over and lifting with your lower back is one. Not jumping out of the cab/off the bed of the trailer is another. Both are however commonly ignored, usually by people loudly complaining about unnecessary H/S.

I do agree that that picture shows up what utter ■■■■■■■■ the H&S industry really is. The instructor not wearing hi-viz or safety footwear, inside a warehouse…

I’m sure there’s a law someware that states all female office staff are allowed on the shop floor in high heels.
As never seen a woman in safety shoes

edd1974:
I used go kingspan hull. They wouldt let you leave untill load was strapped.
Then had metal ledging staging. Drive your wagon alongside. Then you can access top of load throw straps over and had to use there own bendable things under straps. 1 st time I went I started use my own black corner top things . Was told can’t use theres. And then they take a picture then given ok to leave.
It how places should be.
Provide proper access to strap load etc

Many places now won’t allow working at height, so get your strap caught between pallets and you get told off for climbing up to free it. Forget being able to put corner protectors in place, not allowed to climb up with the curtains open.

Just another example of how drivers are totally up against it.

To be honest I feel although for the outfits that mainly just haul around pallets, it’d be a whole lot easier for them and their customers just to forget curtainsiders going forward and get box vans.

A top own goal, no mention of insecure load with this one

this is where working for the hooligans who pay all your fines apart from speeding comes in handy.
no ■■■■■■■ about with straps, and no financial worries if your stopped.

Thats a ferry trailer. Most likely came over like that.

image.jpegthe pigs drove past me 3 times the other day ,they must of been face timing to Nina to see if this was bolted on

Just out of interest, what is it ?

manski:
Just out of interest, what is it ?

Good question ,obviously it’s a roll on / off ,fixed generator at the front then this particular plant separates water from sewage I belive ,others I move do it with a centrifuge and some get grit out of what the road sweepers ■■■■ up ,most are for trench less drilling to recycle water ,then there’s mobile workshops plus I’ve a flat and a tipper body too .

Edit iam wrong ,the above separates grit from the muck that get sucked out of BT boxes in the road .

Old school load security. :stuck_out_tongue:

As its the drivers responsibility, Grow some bollox, If its not secure it stays on the bay until it is. End of, any decent company should back their drivers decision and put an end to all this sh1 te

I see where you’re…

Coming from but, some gaffers attitudes really ■■■■ and others are right behind their drivers.

After weighing off in our yard with boxed spuds which I’d only been loading for two weeks or so, I was over by around a ton and a quarter. I mentioned this and the straps/load security situation to one of the firms owners and his reply was ‘we have good solicitors’. My answer was ‘I have no wish to ever meet them in a work related scenario’.

As usual standards vary widly in this industry.

Aslong as your boss is getting paid by the tonne im sure hell be fine.

Most people upstairs only care that its there, not how.

Of course…

They were fine, they get paid per ton, that’s the nature of the business. My point is what can you do when gaffers have attitudes like this?

Unfortuneately nothing, or leave obviously.

I always find no-one gives a ■■■■, until ■■■■ hits the fan. But by then its all to late, and your in big trouble.

Drivers are the ones who get cained the most in the uk, as ultimately we decide to take it on the road.

Germany is better, driver small fine, your company and the company who loaded you big fine.
