Hello, dear drivers.
I am Liliya and I represent a company producing eco bags, based in Moscow.
We make bags, suitcases and backpacks using truck tarpaulins which Are not in use anymore. I think Europe and the UK is a good place to find those soft sides as the European lorry traffic is tremendous.
The only problem is, I don’t know where exactly to look for them. I’ve contacted few service centers, they never replied EBay doesn’t have any. I’ve seen new ones in the online shops, but it’s not what I look for. We need those old and really used tarpaulins having signs of their long and not always easy life on them.
Some of you might have tarpaulins for sale or, maybe, to be taken to a garbage dump. We are ready to buy them to give them a second life and make our world a little bit cleaner.
If you feel like our idea is not too odd and if you have some soft sides to sell, or if you could give me any information about where to look for them, please let me know, i would really appreciate it
You could try UK based trailer manufacturers and repairers such as Lawrence David in Peterborough, there are also some breakers yards that generally just dispose of the old curtains.
Sorry I don’t have any specifics but some of our other members may have a better idea.
Funnily enough I had an email yesterday from Russia. When I clicked on the link, a few of the women on there had worn out and old curtains on show, and for sale.

Emmm women from Russia you mean ? Or are they in England? Would be nice if I could ger a used tarpaulins from them, thanks for the info, can you send me a link to the private messages please?

Just do what everybody else does, just cut the side out while driver is asleep, only need a Stanley knife, and a low roof ford transit.
Ahahah That’s a great idea, but, you know, we’re supposed to make our world better by reusing what could make a pollution…and sneakily cutting someone else’s curtains doesn’t look so “world saving” does it
But thank you for the tip

Hi, thank you for a nice reply. Can I ask what’s “breakers yards”? I’d probably contact some if I find …
Lilliya…that sounds like a great idea, and you have a couple of suggestions…anyway…there are the repair companies also who change curtains and i dont know what they do with them…trailer breaking companies is another source…you will also have to get them collected…and transported to Russia/Moscow, which is not going to be cheap…how will you achieve that…and i wish you well in your new venture…your english is very good also.

Hello, Trucky, thanks for a compliment. Delivery to Moscow is not an issue whatsoever as there are companies who deliver to Russia for £4 per kilo only. I guess I just have to keep contacting truck service centers and try to make them reply. Thank you a lot for your help, have a nice weekend

That’s a good rate £4000 per tonne. Form an orderly que and for the full job rate, at £4 per kilo.

But I don’t need to transport a tonne do I ? )) for the fast delivery with no custom documents it’s fine.
Yeah I’ve heard they only ask you if you have any customs documents or not when heading east out of the EU. And if you don’t it’s ok, less hassle for the border officials
I’m sure there are hundreds of more viable options of getting used tarpaulins in western Russia without importing them from the UK and paying £4 per kg (it’s not exactly light).
