Looking for advice on agency

i am am doing class 2 work which i hate . working in rollos and skip wagon
i lift from £330-£375 a week.
i seen jod advertised as permanent class 1 local so applied.turns out to be a agency.
they promise full time permanent for big retail.

so not sure if i can trust agency to pack in a job i hate .

can a agency give me full work like they say?

any advice please.

in a word, no !
Agencys lie, promise work then just offer the odd shift that no one else will do. Very rare to get a full weeks work from these parasites outside peak periods.

they seem gen in what they offer. but not sure about leaving full time work.

agencies always seem gen. Trust them at your peril.

Never trust ANY Agency, they lie just for the sake of it.

Definitely don’t expect full-time work from the agency. All agencies are busy at the moment and crying out for drivers, but it will slacken off in a month or so until the Christmas rush and then come January/February next year work will dry up until at least Easter. If you can put in the hours up until then to cover the weeks you have little or nothing then fine, but if you need to rely on a regular wage then don’t do it. Also, the majority of agencies will expect you to go Self Employed, either in your own right or in an umbrella scheme.

told them i have full time work and have family and bills.
but they still say they have ful time work for retail and i should pack job in and work for them.
i would like that work better than skip work. but could be big mistake if they dont have te contract they say they have

Wot them blokes say, i speak as i find and i found agencies to be untruthful.

I got full weeks work for about 6 months on one job till the job changed, the customer simply told me to turn up and they told the agency, agency didn’t like it and they tried to change things but an call from the customer reminding them of who was paying whom soon put that right.

I did pack in a full time £40k+ job (which i grew to hate) to go on agency, that was 3 to 4 years ago, however having no mortgage and no debts and a supportive and frugal wife meant we could live cheaply till i found a proper full time job again, only you can make the choice given your own circumstances.

Look Tea Bag, i see from your latest comments that they are trying to convince you, think of them as politicians, when did one of those turds ever promise you something and delivered?

How about putting two weeks holiday in and giving the agency job a go?
I gave up agency work after being offered a full time job, after a couple of days I handed my notice in and went back on the agencies.
Some companies just don’t give a toss, I don’t want to work for one of those companies.

They would though wouldn’t they.

I would never leave a full time job to go for agency work, unless they would put IN WRITING a guaruantee of minimum earnings or the full time job they promised you.

Best to cover the life that you have now than trust the word of anyone who is only in business for themselves.

have no holiday left.
but they want me to go and do green cards for all 3 on tuesday. so i should have a chance to quiz transport them self time i am there

The Full Time employer you might have are just as much “in business for themselves” as any agency.

The main difference is the distance between the driver and the person who decides if you’ll get the boot or not.
Chances are, sacking you from a large firm is a more complicated process than not giving you work at an agency - BUT these days, if they want to get shot of you - they’ll find a way!

i do know i hate my lob and the knobs i work for.

If you hate it that much then you’ve probably chosen a good time of year to give the agencies a go but I don’t think you’ll find many drivers recommending you should go from a full-time job to agency work.

If you have decided to jump, as it sounds like, then read the contract that the agency offers you, don’t just sign on the dotted line, and make sure any promises they’ve made are in writing (though they will never guarantee work).

Remember that with your current employer, if they have problems, either with you or with the work they do then they are obliged to give you notice, redundancy, etc. With agency work, if you happen to screw up, they lose the contract, or your face just doesn’t fit then you will receive nothing - often not even a phonecall.

If you have commitments, especially a mortgage or young children then I say again, don’t do it, just keep an eye open for other permanent jobs - they do appear from time to time (Two companies in my area are advertising full-time positions at the moment so it is a good time to look around).

It’s not Bakers Waste you’re on with is it - they always seem to be advertising for drivers?

no mate. i am in north east. but thanks for the advice

The agency have a use for you at present that is all. Stay in your full time job.

As others have said, agency staff are salesmen / politicians.

Would you believe either of those?

was kind of hope it would lead to something better.
but by the looks it prob wont

You get 3 things from agency work as a rule.

  1. experience of different jobs
  2. experience of different vehicles / trailers
  3. LIES
