Looking for advice on agency

I have generally found driving to be a decent job, there are just rubbish firms around,
and the majority of agency work is presently past it’s best.

Try and find a full - time job at a better firm than the one where you are now.

Yorkysays:-:
How about putting two weeks holiday in and giving the agency job a go?
I gave up agency work after being offered a full time job, after a couple of days I handed my notice in and went back on the agencies.
Some companies just don’t give a toss, I don’t want to work for one of those companies.

You could get away with that a few years ago. Nowadays, if both are on digi, you’re screwed. Many companies have a clause in their contracts with employees stating that you can’t take on another driving job without the company’s permission; the reasons shouldn’t need explaining. Get caught out, you could jeopardise your current job and end up without a pot to ■■■■ in.

To the OP; as a former consultant (and NOT one who lied, despite what Messrs. Bitter and Twisted say we’re not all like that) I would recommend that you do NOT give up a permanent job to go on agency, especially if you have a wife, children and a mortgage. Your call; but do your research and think before you jump.

i wouldnt think it would be too hard to match what youre earning atm…sure, there are quiet times, but there are busy times when youll double what youre earning now.
alot of what is said about agency drivers is true…so you dont have to be bionic to get near the top of the tree.do your bit and theyll see you right.

I can never understand why people are interested in working full time on agency anyway?

The whole idea is you pick and choose when and what you work, which by definition is rarely going to be a maxed-out week.

If there was such a thing as a part time C+E job, then I would take it, rather than work agency. I’ve never actually heard of a “weekends only” permanent PT post though, so someone put me right please…

Try the bakeries, they’ll usually recruit permanent weekend staff

I’ve been trying to get into Allied at Orpington since last year already. :frowning:
The agencies have been cutting each other’s throats on rates, but to make matters worse, Allied don’t seem to be recruiting FT let alone weekenders!

well its d day monday.
stay in ■■■■ job or work at asda for agency

alamcculloch:
The agency have a use for you at present that is all. Stay in your full time job.

which agency is it?
used to work at a fair few before moving south a couple are decent and have decent work but others expect to stand around or sign on during jan feb!

Chucked a full time job almost 2 years ago to go with Agency and never regretted it, I will do any shift though except Saturday night so I always get work.

Agencies are lying scumbags.

I have just had a row with one over not being able to work - they seem to think they have first claim on my time - and I had to make it clear that when I was unavailable and/or working elsewhere I would say no. When I did they threw their toys out of the pram. They will say anything to get what they want and, in general, you will find agency work is a lot less reliable and predictable. That said, there is plenty of work around at the moment. It will dry up though and you may well find they don’t want to know in January.
