I deliver things lol … the leeds triangle they used to call it before macfarlanes went bust ,BEDFORDS,LONGS AND MACFARLANE,S the same down beat drivers going around and around from one minimum wage employer to another tm on the phone asking where are you now a thousand times a day … park up with these manic depressives and by the end of the night you want to hang your selfs but see them two years later and they still working for the same firm moaning about how bad the job is and in ten years time he,ll still be there moaning … and on the subject of been a professional I get paid to do the job so im a professional plus I cant do delivering babies but I bet the doctor cant reverse a truck on the blind side in the rain at night into a supermarket loading bay ■■? I get paid to do a professional job and that’s what I do …
Yes the Leeds triangle did well and truly exsist but the amount of drivers that used to leave macfarlane for the so called big money many of them used to return for there job back.
I loved working there but I was young and had a mental streak going on in my head that lasted about 8 years
I,ll proberbly know you then I was with macfarlanes when they were on the ring road next to the train tracks and with them both times they went bust at cross green ?
i did about 4 months out of cross green

Yeah but no weekends ever fridge man?
Not sure what you mean?
My shift pattern is explained above. That’s what we have agreed, I’ve seen plenty of RB trucks about all over the UK at weekends. Or did you mean something else?
I meant that you won’t have any weekend off, ever.
OK, I’m with you. I’m glad it doesn’t work for everyone - otherwise the pay wouldn’t be a bit better than the usual rate.
My wife’s a nurse, kids are grown up. We are used to unusual working patterns. Saturday and Sunday are the quietest days on the road (usually) and always the quietest days at RDCs.
I can’t see any negatives from my personal point of view.
stevieboy308:
did anything get mentioned about paying for damage?
They said if I trash something due to negligence then I would be expected to pay it back out of wage - by instalments. Was capped, but can’t remember what the cap is. Not worried myself, not planning on trashing the kit.

Can I ask you a question fridge man
Also what if your involved in a accident with a uninsured driver/stolen vehicle or a vehicle that is driven off cannot be traced?
Ah, ok fridge man suppose its horses for courses. As a young ish man, I just couldn’t cope with every weekend at work & I’m not that much of a raver.
Whenever we get called ‘upstairs’ by management, they always come out with;
“your a proffesional driver, you should of done this/that…”
My reply?
I’m not a proffesional driver, i’m just a bloke that drives for a living, lewis hamilton/jenson button are proffesional drivers, and get paid accordingly".
youngpretender88:
Saw 1 parked up for the night in Airdrie on monday, the 20 drivers are maybe there, cause its like Beirut
Hawl I’m originally from Airdie-ish and I used to be Airdrie Unt’s Goalkeeper so I’d appreciate if you could stop under estimating it… its like bagdhad!

Not to worry, if that happens I’ll become a rock legend - but only right after I’ve been struck by lightning…

The best one I had was when I turned a third run down was “you have to do it, you’re a professional driver”

LeedsChris:
The rates of pay are low for hgv drivers because the job is a piece of pi*s to do.Does any driver honestly at the end of shift go home and think they have done a hard days graft.Labouring on a building site is a proper days work, or out on the motorways digging up the road.
I would never call myself a professional driver. How can you be a pro, when it only takes a week to pass your class one.A doctor is a professional, a lawyer, civil engineers, pilots…not lorry drivers, hence the reason we are paid accordingly.
For how easy our job is and the amount of time we get when waiting to tip whilst laid on the bunk, i think we get paid quite well.Usually new and clean motors to drive, your own choice of music to listen to, instead of chav fm if you work in a warehouse, no set breaktimes, youre out and about seeing different places.I did many menial jobs in my early twenties and everyone was harder than the lorry driving i do now.
Your an ■■■■■■■■! And I bet your a p1sh HGV driver into the bargain, hence the low opinion of yourself! Don’t bother trying to speak for the rest of us because you clearly don’t have a clue. I’m a former ambulance medic who studied 4 years to become qualified. I’ve saved lives, pronounced people dead and delived 6 babies, 2 of which with complications, I’ve been in upside down cars and under trains doing my job and was pushed to near suicide when I lost it through ill health! So don’t you bloody dare judge someone on their choice to becoming an HGV driver. Yes my training wasn’t anywhere near as long as my former profession but I am bloody proud of it. When I drive a massive 44 tonner through a congested town centre the only reason there isn’t a path of destruction in my wake is because I do it professionally. The majority of us here are skilled, we take a pride in our work, we use intelligence to problem solve, communicate, plan and perform safely. I for one know my highway code front to back, know my road signs and am up to date with the rather complex drivers hours legislation. I have completes my commercial vehicle IAM and I am passionate about road safety. None of your ‘menial’ jobs requires such mental effort and understanding as we PROFESSIONAL drivers apply to our day at work! But then again I doubt you do put in any of the aforementioned intelligence, effort, understanding or professionalism into your HGV driving going by your idiotic post. You sir are at the lowest end of the HGV driver spectrum while me and my other colleagues on here are at the higher end and THATS why we deserve to be paid accordingly! You are suited to the cowboys who get what they pay for!
Fridge Man:
The rates aren’t that bad when you do the math. For starters they do paid breaks.
Saturday: £10.05 per hour
Sunday: £12.43 per hour
Mon - Friday is: £7.45 per hour for first 9 then £9.57
Are you for real? You seriously believe they are good rates?
Fridge Man:
That means if I get my 15’s in over 4 days I’ll gross over £620 pw inc night out allowance. . . Averaging £9 per hour.
You can’t do four 15’s in a week. £9hr for working the weekend?! Roll up, roll up, join the queue!

Tell them they are professional office bods so they can zb off & do it themselves…!
@ affmabus…Can you back up your personal insults of me, or are you just another keyboard gangster?
I drive nights to scotch and Lichfield. Can we arrange to meet up anytime to give you the chance to insult me to my face.
I don’t have a low or high opinion of myself regarding my job, but i do know that we are not on the same level as the previous occupations i mentioned.
Too many hgv drivers are incompetant at reversing, pulling air lines out, dropping trailers on their necks. The amount of road accidents with a lorry involved is shocking.
If a pilot, surgeon, civil engineer or gas fitter were to make the same basic mistakes day in day out, then the death rate would shoot up.These are deserving of the term professional, not your typical thick calamitious lorry driver.

I come on here to air my views and read other drivers opinions.I don’t come on to be verbally insulted multiple times by someone who seems to have been there, done that, got the t-shirt.It is all too easy to make personal attacks on someone from the safety of hiding behind the computer screen. If you are not prepared to call someone to their face, don’t do it at all.
