Nestlé have got at least 3 been sat in York for quite a while. Just been stickered ready for work over the past week or so.

United Biscuits have also been using them for quite a while too! Liveried up as McVities!

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2

united biscuits run 20 at the moment with more coming in the new year.

Hello rich12

Excellent sightings marra. Many thanks

I saw this in Brampton Hut services0 a couple of weeks ago

That looks like a 14.6 which I didn’t think there were many about.

no idea of the length mate, i just had a kip, and when i woke up it pulled in, i noticed the axle configuration and got a pic.

They’re trailing 14.6 and 15.6 trailers. The gap between axle 2 and 3 is normally the quickest way to see what type it is. If you look at the other pictures you’ll see a much bigger gap.
The reason I said you don’t see many of these about is I can’t understand why you’d opt for the 14.6 instead of the 15.6. If you’re running the LST then surely you’re doing it for extra capacity so why wouldn’t you run the maximum allowed?

Hello m1cks

Many thanks for that marra

Yes, I agree with you. Why would any haulier opt for the 14.6 m trailer

Kindest regards
CG

We are running quite a few of the 14.6 metre trailers at Culina, we do have the longer 15.6 trailers too but not sure if they are out on the road!
Remember this is a goverment trial for longer lengths that is why 2 different lengths have been chosen & i heard not sure if true but the costs for these trailers is shared betwem haulier & goverment!
You need a permit in the truck to run on our road system whilst pulling these but to be honest with our 14.6 ones it is hard to tell the difference apart from the rear steer axle!

Hello jacko22

Many thanks marra for that information and sightings

I’ve not been told about having a permit in the cab to pull one of these nor have I ever had to carry one.
We were given a days training and only designated drivers are allowed to pull ours.

The reason for the rear steer is to make it compliant with the required turning circle as mentioned earlier in the thread.

CG - I’ve got one next week if there anything in particular you want a photo of? PM me.

You may be right about the permit m1cks but all firms are different. all i know is at Culina we are not allowed out the yard unless we have the permit, it may be just them!!

United Biscuits at Ashby have a fair few in use, they also have the big yellow sticker on the headboard saying that only proper drivers can operate them.
Pets at Home have a few as well, not sure if they’re on store deliveries or North/South changeovers, also ND has trialled one for one of the home appliance contracts shuttling white goods between the factory and distribution centre.

Hello Rentadent

Many thanks for that marra

Are the Pets at Home trailers owned by Downton or Pets at Home?

Kindest regards
CG

Pets at home aren’t on the trial list of operators so I imagine its run by downtown’s in their livery.
Unless pets at home use a different name for their o licence.

Hello m1cks

Many thanks for that marra

I thought they might be Downton since they do most of the logistics for them

They’ll be Downtons trailers but they’re all green with Pets at Home or Wainwrights dog food curtains.

It seems like Maritime, DHL, Dentressangle and Stobart have the biggest allocation of 71 (94) trailers each

Allocation of Longer Semi-trailers
The first number is a 14.6m while the second number denotes 15.65m and the last number is the total trailers allowed.

It doesn’t mean that every company on the list has taken up their allocation though and it was feared by allowing the big four, that it would put other companies off from trialling them.

Hello Wheel Nut

Many thanks marra for spending the time and effort to put that full list on Trucknet.

Your quite right that not every company will taken up their allocation

I know for a fact that Brewers Road Haulage & Alan Glendinning will not be taking up their allocation because owner of both companies Mr Glendinning wasn’t happy when his companies only got allocated the 14.6m trailers rather than the 15.56m trailers

He said it was pointless to any haulier running the 14.6m trailers

Many thanks again

Kindest regards
CG

Passed one of Culinas tonight, not sure which length it is, looked like all trailer axles were steering

For us old ■■■■■ can someone put these new trailer lengths in feet and inches thanks
