Hi r slicker i worked with Scory P for Frank Allen who ran a company called PBC european from sholing in Southampton, this was in '73/4 if that helps, by the way Frank only lives 1/4 a mile from me in Bursledon and is 83 and used to live next door until a couple of years ago.

Thats the trouble with people today they always think the worse, the story goes like this .I took my HGV test in Redruth ,Cornwall as i did my training there through Richard Benney of Helston, now after a month or so of driving for him i had a load of bagged milkpowder destination Kent, also i had a rider as they used to call it which consisted of 160 crates of spring cabbage bound for the old covent garden market roped on top of the sheeted load this was a place i had never before visited.Anyway i left Helston at five in the evening and made my way to London, bearing in mind it took four hours to get past Exeter in them days as there were no bypassesand i was in a GUY big J with a 180 gardner in it, onwards we went through the night arriving eventually at the market at about five am, well i could not get any where near the stand i had to deliver to as they had bin at it for three hours already but i locked up the lorry and proceded on foot, found the boss and he said i’ll send the barra’s round to get them john, i thought hang on a mo, i aint never bin here before how do you know me name is john, but thats another story. Anyway up turn the barras 13 crates on each one til they was cleared, back to the stand got me breakfast tip and proceded to Kent, got half unloaded and got a phone call in the office from the geezer in covent garden shoutin ,wheres my effin greens, well i wuz gob smacked but at the end of the day the only one who wuz green wuz me, so i had to put that one down to experience and i can assure you i was a lot more carefull after that, so there you go Charlie i did’nt shoot them i just got done up like a kipper.

Also moving smartly on… There used to be a Southampton outfit that did continental with yellow Fodens. What were they called - can’t remember.
i think you mean p.b.c re public benefit coal.he started continental work by chopping down his eight wheeler tippers into tractor units, the guy’s name was frank something i cant remember his second name.his reputation was he was a fiery man and a hard taskmaster.
