Hi All,
thanks for your comments about my uncle Phil. I went down to see him and my auntie Audrey a few weeks ago at Weston-Super-Mare, they were both doing well after having some rough spells over the past few years.
Phil has given me quite a few photos of Bakers of Southampton and Transport Services. I also have some I have taken and will try to get them all scanned soon.
Phil was a long time driver for Bakers and one of the last working there. He later worked for Transport Services/Barry Squibb and finally Pat Duffy.
Some of my earliest memories are of Barkers ERF’s even though I am from Co.Durham, my dad was from Southampton, Audrey was his sister. I was only two weeks old for my first visit to Southampton in 1964 and have been back nearly every year forty years or so.
I have many happy memories of these times, especially of Bakers and my uncle Phil, who anyone who knows him is a real one off. It is great to see and read about them on this site.
Here is Phil’s first lorry at Bakers taken in 1962
And here is the man himself when he visited me at my yard earlier this year!
Regards Pat
The Fiat that Phil drove was BRV317W…and I drove BRV315W after Pat Scorey had it.
