Long Departed Southampton Hauliers (Part 1)

Hi Jimski.
I remember the guy Curly who used to run the HGV driving school it was outside of Meachers yard in West Quay Road.I took my First test with him and it wasnt long after that he packed it in.That would have been in 1980/81. The driving school was something to do with Motec but it was known then by the name Wessex R.T.I.T.B . which stood for Road Transport Industry Training Board. I think the likes of Meachers Pitters etc were ■■■■■■■ in it somehow. Regards Todd.

Hi Toddmck blimey that was only a year or two after I took me test ! I never noticed really when he disappeard.

Hi Danne
You would have to ask Jed as he was driving for Hankin Haulage when that pic was taken.

Regards Pat

Hello Pat/ Danne,
Yes, taken in Stockholm around 1990 - Caught a ferry from Felixtowe to Gothenburg then spent two weeks loading and running all the loaded trailers back to the port. The event was the world equestrian games.

Jed.

Hello toddmck
I took my HGV with Wessex R.T.I.T.B in 1989 IIRC i think your right about Pitters having something to do with them.
