[Sorry to learn about Mickey Burchett-IIRC he knew the job,but could be somewhat determined at times!!
Victory’s first Mandator was a Mk 5 -BOR 234C-driven new by Fred Marriot from Harefield. The second, also a Mk 5-COT 551C- was driven new by Bill Denton from Carters Clay
Mickey Burchett would have joined Victory 1967/8 ish in which case various ergomatic cabbed Mandators were in service
The first ergo cabbed Mandator was DOR261D &the first Mercury was FCG 33D these were followed by various Princes Commercials supplied products both AEC & Dodge

I drove an ergomatic cab-ed Leyland Lynx artic for them, at either ( can’t remember whether it was 26t or 28t gross ) It had about a 3inch skirt welded into the cab to lift it up to accommodate the engine, which had no cylinder heads in the conventional way. The block contained the head, no head gaskets, less problems, at least that was the theory. In the time I drove it, about a year, it gave no serious engine problems, possibly down to the regular scheduled servicing, but I believe they gained a bit of a reputation with other companies…Anyone else on here remember / drove a Lynx ?

Hi Fergie i drove a leyland linx 26 tonne artic for Noyce Brothers on round timber haulage from west tytherly near Salisbury ,it was a 26 tonner but always loaded heavier than that. I used it with a pole trailer and remember getting stopped for exssesive black smoke coming up the bank from Basingstoke on the M3, i had one elm tree trunk on bound for Martock in Somerset where it was cut into coffin boards but just got a caution this was about mid seventies, i moved onto a year old mandator ergo cab not long after that, regards JD.
PS. good luck to the girls in tomorrows run.

Bit scary that photo, is that a local French custom in that neck of the woods then ■■?..to drink in the ear :open_mouth: :unamused:
Never tried that Routiers but i,d like to one day.

Good luck tomorrow girls.

Hi all another pic of XMW 942K 110 which was supplied new to Cobdens of Martock ( as a sleeper cab ) and used on fridge work UK and abroad it was then part exchanged for a new Scania into unit Commercial Ltd , then bought by Norman Ahser still in Cobdens colours which was later I believe put into Sea Route livery untill Norman had an accident on the M4 as I stated before then came to Mr Cartwright with bent cab, who stuck on a Day Cab ! I think that’s right

Can’t keep a good man down, Richard decided to start up again by purchasing a new MaggieD…However, he has decided to take on an apprentice Inter-incontinent-tal driver to run to Italy and back…

Setting off on first trip, fully freighted, with new trailer…and no permit…Watch out Buzzer, you’ve got competition ! Reggio Calabaria - return - 24 hours…or bust

Blimey Dave who would need to go home with a sleeper cab like that !! you could even put 20 ton in the sleeper !
And I noticed that Richard has also put a nice big winch on it so you don’t need to use the tunnell you can go straight over the top saving Richard Loadsa money !!
Hope the girls got on ok with the run !!!

Regards Jimski

This time Danny Dovey’s eightwheeler Foden

This is a Guy publicity photograph taken at the Cerebos factory in Middlewich (Victory used to distribute Cerebos Salt & Bisto products) This was WHO 305, the first of 2 identical Guy Warrier light 8’s purchased by Victory Transport The other was WHO 877.
Vic Hooper is the driver & the grim expression on his face was as a result of the photographer insisting that he stood for far too long on the narrow wheel ring !!

To all the lads who supported Liz and Angie for their charity run, a couple of pic’s for you, and there are more on the “Drivers Wives” thread…Great effort from the Southampton drivers, the total now at £892…Thanks to everyone who contributed.

By chance when making a vizit to our yard, Lee who works for us gave me these snaps of trucks his dad drove for Victory Transport and then Greenwoods. Also is a pic of a rental truck from Godfrey Davis, my god that takes me back another Mary Hopkin moment, does any one else recognise any of these trucks.

How old are you Jimmer, Star transporters is way back there transport manager Mick Sheppard used to do Mackpacks for me 2 to 3 nights a week to Fords Basildon tractor plant with casings, thats probabley why he was asleep most of the day. When he returned and got reloaded he would ring me and of i’de go for the day shift, nice as the cab was already warmed up, another MH moment Jim.

gazzer:
This bloke is well known in some in some circles, PJK, Ainscough, King Lifting…can you add any more?
P.S. He’s NOT in the Paralympics Javelin Team!

It looks to me that he might buy his PPE from C&A (Christian Aid that is) Regards Todd.

Hi Buzzer my first Job driving HGV was with Meachers about 79 don’t know if you or anyone on here remembers Curley who used to run the driver training school out side Meachers Yard, well when I passed the test he picked up the phone to Meachers and got me a job ! Bloody lovely guy was Curley good instructor after me rope and sheeting week in the yard I was given a Scammell Handyman Mor 891L (the one that got restored ) which let go on the M4 anyways after about 5/6 months on Meachers I went to Star Car Transporters running Renault out the Docks Mick Sheppard (R.I.P) was the Transport Manager then, good laugh was Mick and only the other day I found out that Mick Sheppard was Very good mate of Jim Streets !! Bloody small world in the driver circles !!
