Long Departed Southampton Hauliers (Part 1)

Bewick:
That Big j is a “one off”! was it a factory built twin steer or somebody’s “codged” an 8 wheeler into a tractor!!!

I’m not clued up on Big Js, Dennis, but I’m sure I have read that the factory built only one Chinese 6 Big J unit, and which was a Motor Show exhibit.

The HILL Big J, was powered by a 6LX-150 when the first trials were carried out, and although successful, Hill was told he would have to uprate the Gardner as it was under-powered. I think that one of the Guys in 6x2 form still exists and was planed for preservation, wether or not this ever took placei dont know■■? it was parked round on the Hills vast piece of land 10 or 15 yrs back.

As my last comment worked so well (4 nil), I’ll try this one for size. Can’t wait to see Saints go up as champions this season…

Hi Mikey
If you want to get cold on Saturday afternoons you can always come and wash lorries

He is another of the same load recognise the building on the right that was pulled down a few years ago? Also see the Thames Trader support vehicle behind!

This was one of two loads here is the other

The date for Paul was the 27/28 June 1970
Rich

Great photos Pat, not a marker board, high viz or hard hat in sight…proper job.
I,m guessing that,s on route to Fawley.
Would the rear steersman be TIR Originals brother Hennesse.■■?
