Richie, I did’nt know you worked for Heron? Did you know Brian Evans who was on there for quite a while? He was a neighbour of mine up until earlier this year when the big ‘C’ sadly got him after a brave battle. Also Mike Edwards lived oppposite my parents when i was a teenager and I’m sure he was on Heron for donkeys years.

Fergie47:
Anyone remember this Smith of Maddiston Guy ? It was the only one finished in those colours. Mick Hennessey drove it for a while, untill he and Bobby Knox left to go to Smithers, when they were based at Lex Tillisons. I had the oppertunity to join them, but prefered to stay on general haulage work. I drove it for about a year after Mick left. The thing that sticks in my mind was the short stubby exhaust, which, by the time you reached Penrith on the way to Scotland, you were deaf . Also,no dodgy nights, as it stuck out like a sore thumb.

Hello Fergie47
Dad has’nt been round but spoke to him.He remembers Mick Hennessey and Bobby Knox again both great men.According to dad Bob Knox was one of the original Henry Smithers drivers on contract to Dart Line when Smithers had 4 or 5 lorries based at LexTilllisons. Also he remembers Smith of Maddiston.
Hi Rich
Cheers for putting those photo’s on, I will ask the old man about that drivers name, also that F7 used to be in white with Heron Rentals written on it before it was orange.

The driver of the wisharts volvo could have been my dad his name is wullie nisbet he drove an F88 for wisharts and his one didn,t have anything on the grill and i,m pretty certain the other F88 wisharts had all had things like the scrolls and badges across them.from son of a truck driver
Hi " son of a truck driver ", welcome to the madhouse.
I took that photo in 1976/77 and the Wishart driver was i reckon in his 60,s then. nice bloke i seem to remember.
hi “mappo” it wouldnt have been my dad after all he was in his late 30s in 1976/77 if it was 1976 his unit would still have been white as wisharts bought it as an x demonstrator and im pretty sure it didnt get painted in their colours until 77,but thanks anyway its always nice to see the old F88 as am a big fan of them even though i went to coach driving not lorry driving, cheers
…
Richard and Charlie…thank for the reminder about the horse and carts.aye tell young people about that today ( in northern accent ) and they wont believe ya.
Re Graham Richardson i remember his smart Iveco, was it a Calefornian ? I ran with him a few times doing fridge work in the early Solstor days. good old boy.
As for Graham Wainright i,m still in touch and speak to him most weeks, in fact i,ve got a few photos of Grahams overturned Volvo when he was pulling for Eurohaul.

Yes TIR I did thank you and noted in my fone, not long now, 18th…busy getting things sorted for her indoors for when I’m not here and getting a slow feed of instruction of what I should be buying when away (or NOT buying as the case may be, electrinics, tools etc).
Soon be time to go and stock up on the vino for my duration, to be liberally shared by one and all…they know who they are…self service wine cellar (he wont notice a glass or two out of a 15ltr box)…I’ll see if one of the French Foreign Legion that comes over will remember his promise of a few Vinos Francaise, just to give a little European depth to the flavour. A little italian cooking too. No, there isnt a little Italian cooking, I mean a small amount of Italian cooking! Mind you, I did get an offer from a Spanish lady (Very NICE) to come over and cater for the incumbents for some dosh…not sure of her sleeping arrangements tho!

Now that you,ve got my phone No. Gazza, perhaps you,d be kind enough to pass it on to aforementioned senorita.
It,s been a while since i,ve been with…er spoken to a Spanish lady. If her rates are the same as 20 years ago bring ,er along.
As for sleeping arrangements i,ve got a spare bunk in the FH and i,ve also got a few MOTO meal vouchers to keep her in grub.
