Long Departed Southampton Hauliers (Part 1)

hello jacko how are ya ; does anybody remember hill construction , thats the yellow board behind dads 88 ,its where lamberts office and yard are that old bridge was a bit tight.

swayze1:
Hi Mikey1964, no good with the years, but it was around about T Reg trucks came out. Hattons became part of the Renwicks group. I suppose they were asset stripped. Their yard was opposite where Lamberts are now.

Regards, Alan

Thanks swayze1,

i was on for Lamberts in 1986 for about 4 years but I don’t recall them, maybe they’d been long gone by then. ‘T’ plate was 79 I think so who know’s, my memory is intermittent with some years but some one was in the yard over the road and I’d guess at Renwicks. I think it was red trucks?

Good pics once again, I remember Mackness around town.

Mike

Hi Mikey
The time you were on Lamberts it was probabley Terry Davis but also Pat & Bob Cartwright were in that yard at that sort of time its the stone pople now
Cheers Rich

No Jim delivered two down then brought one back last Wednesday, drove down from Daventry to LeMans via Dover/Calais then supposed to come back Caen/Portsmouth but they went on strike so had to drive back to Calais but they don’t have tachographs or speed limiters so a bit like the old days 22 hours in one go!!!

Not sure if I am there this week think I have to bring some down to Glastonbury!

Regards Pat

Yes,Renwicks did indeed come from Exeter.Marsh Barton to be exact.I worked for them in the sixtes for a while. They used to trunk up four lorries a night with the Cornish eggs.(Great for breakfast!).I used to tip at Bermondsey and reload Tate and Lyle.Home by 1130 am.I think the bulk side at that time was Renwick Wilton and Dobson.Did a lot of coal.Sorry,I,m away from the thread.Regards Charlie

Jacko.

Richie, I did’nt know you worked for Heron? Did you know Brian Evans who was on there for quite a while? He was a neighbour of mine up until earlier this year when the big ‘C’ sadly got him after a brave battle. Also Mike Edwards lived oppposite my parents when i was a teenager and I’m sure he was on Heron for donkeys years.

Hi pdw,
They also had a DAF dealership in Wooton under Edge Gloucestershire, hence the reg.number on your pic, I brought one off them in 1973 for timber haulage,I’ll try and find a shot of it for you.

Alan, Collis Rentals is now Collease I think, they are on the Marchwood Ind.Est still going strong.

Charlie, When you were trunking the eggs, did you have a Shell card ? Weathers getting better ready for a trip to Alton ! Try and time it so Mappo can come, I keep looking out for him in his Goldstar motor, must have met all their drivers now except Tony :unamused:

Hi Richard Yes I did have a Shell card. Also I used to go to work on an egg. However one morning,it wouldn,t start so I phoned the shell garage." My egg won,t start" The guy told me to pull the yolk out.I phoned back and told him “I,ve pulled out the yolk and it,s all white now” Bedtime now.Any time you like for the trip.I,ve prewarned Sparrow and he,s up for it.Will leave it to you. Just let me know.Regards Charlie
