No disrespect Gentlemen but this is one of the reasons i decided to get out of driving, when i used to go with Dad,uncle and Granddad in the 70s & 80s things seemed so different, most drivers would help each other out breakdowns picking each other up on dodges etc etc i hope you know where im coming from :frowning: :frowning:

And how many old dockers are saying pretty the much the same thing about what you do now, ‘rose coloured specs’ rich! New boys today will love the job and the become old cynics like the rest of us in 20 years or more. And who carry’s a spare for me to help them with and modern motors need a plug in to fault find as they are mobile computers really? no one does dodgys anymore and most of the new breed would’nt know what one is plus with the level of cab comfort they’d rather stay in the cab.

Just look at your face sat on that chassis, beats a straddler don’t it? Come on, do a bit of agency and ‘find the love’!!! Poetry that?

Mike

Jimski; Well done matey on the Thunderbird, yea Sat was a wonderful day,me and a pal went out in the pm up to dockgate,a quick coffee and look around then onto Christchurch and another coffee, the A35 from So’ton to Ch’church is a great ride, happy ridin… :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Mappo; Well shag, you be very quiet these days, the over load of work that you do compared to wot you used to do is obviously taking its toll on you.better take some kind of pickyou up… :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Hya Dave, hope you and Liz are well. Must be getting near to your busy time now mate aye.

Yep we’re both fine Tone thanks, and you ? Business could always be better though !!.

I was driving for Smithers on holiday relief, in the ‘80’s ( when they were in P&O blue /white ). Got a puncture on the trailer on the M25 near Maidstone, they didn’t use a tyre company so a tyre man had to come from Tilbury way with a spare to fix it, took about three hours. When he finished he threw the old tyre into the swan neck of the trailer and broke the air lines. They then had to send a fitter out to repair the air lines. Another 3 odd hours. During all that time at least a dozen, if not more, P&O group trucks including 2 of Smithers, drove passed, not one stopped. I’d been there something like six or seven hours.
While waiting for the fitter to arrive the old Bill stopped, I told them the broken air line story, they went and got me a couple of soft drinks and a sarnie, decent blokes, don’t suppose they’d do that these days either. Think that was the beginning of the “can’t stop I’m in a hurry mate” era, where as in the ‘60’s — ‘70’s you did stop, regardless. Sign of the times Tone ? Bet your looking forward to retiring after 40 odd years on the road ?
Take care mate
