( monday tuesday wednesday thursday etc)

R-Jacko,

Rich, keep them coming. excellent photo’s and good to see more form ainacs too. Someone told me about this site last year and it just gets better and better. You’ve got to admire people who did europe in those old day cabs with pretty much no cab comforts at all. then look at the pages where people went to the middle east, I used to feel i had it bad with 5 nights out on the trot.

Your Grandad would be well impressed with the sort of tackle they have on reasonbly local containers now, snotgobblers, super dooper space cabs etc

mike

I could not agree more ive driven and seen better shunters then some of these lorries. But its great to see the old tackle how times change.

Hi Jacko the driver was Ennis Stratton who gave me the pic to put on here

gazzer:
One of my all time favorite photos Pat, is of Bakers 6x4 F89 parked against the wall at Princes after service. But, you will have to wait until I get home before I can post it.

Eric was a hard man to work for and deal with but you learnt a lot from him and his ways. Scorey P. had a real soft spot for his daughter…she was as nasty as Eric but Pat couldnt argue with her!

Pat will remember my first trip to Italy, Metalcom and his disapearing Baker MAN, trailer and load. If I remember all he had left with him was his lump hammer because he was helping me unload my trailer! Pat never went anywhere without his lump hammer.

Hello Pat does Gazzer still come on this site?
If im reading this right looks as though he used to work for Bakers. He also has a photo of Bakers F89 i asked about on a earlier thread?

Gazzer is around…now and again!

Thank you for putting “The Joker” back up Pat.

Now I will try to do a quote with a foto and put a question up:
Sod it, on page 88 with the Bakers trucks in Concorezzo, on the left hand of the foto is an AEC? Is that the one Ken Lane had from Princes when they were AEC agents? There was a foto on the thread much earlier.

Hi R.Jacko,

I used to work for Bob Edwards who subbied for Eric Baker. I started off tipping and loading the trailers from Italy and then started going across with Pat Scorey.

Talking of whom…was any of them MANs in the Bakers fleet the one that Pat drove and eventually was stolen one day when me at Pat were at Metalcom Milan? The same one in the foto I posted earlier with the Bob Edwards F10 in the picture?

Hi Mappo how did the week pan out then Tony ■■ Regards Jimski.

Hya Jim, job,s a good,n mate…been really busy…loads of miles, loads of hours and loads of dosh.
Shady could be right though, it,s been a bit of a shock having to graft for a living but i,ll make the most of it while i can.

Ainacs…Hi Pat hope you enjoyed your hols,
That Maggie of Transport Services you put on was driven by Larry ( RIP) from Andover.Good old boy to run with, always first up in the mornings and on with the kettle.

R-jacko…What absolutely brilliant photos. Well done and keep ,em coming.
Your spelling of Concorezzo was correct. Used to clear customs there most weeks in the late 70,s with crated ISR rubber when pulling for Hocfun ( Colin Wilkes )
Regarding the Bakers MAN,s i,m pretty sure they had 4 of them and were supplied by Morgans at Waltham Chase.
One of the drivers with one used to park at Stubbington. Was,nt your grandad was it ■■
Before you put your pics on, this thread was struggling a bit so here,s hoping you,ve got some more. :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Hi Tony.Re the Bakers driver who used to park at Stubbington,I think it was Terry Sparrow.Funny,he was round here on Tuesday drinking all my special coffee and eating all my custard creams.Regards Charlie

Seeing those Bakers lorries on Continental work reminds me.
There was a guy on Bakers called ( Little ) Mickey Elkins, anyone remember him ■■

He was on the Blanc one trip with an ERF. He’d had brake trouble in Italy, which they didn’t have parts for, so they had disconnected his rear axle brakes on the tractor, leaving him just the trailer and front brakes. He was reluctant to go down the mountain as you’d expect. :open_mouth:

I had a Scania Vabis on Squibbs at the time, we talked about putting a chain on, and me holding him back, but decided eventually that was a little on the dangerous side, so took my trailer down and bob-tailed it back, and took his trailer down for him. He then had a “steady” run back down the mountain, tractor and front brakes only !! I stayed with him all the way back to le Harve “ just in case”, well you did that sort of thing in those days didn’t you. :unamused:

Jimski; Sorry to here about the HD matey, still I sure hope that the Thunderbird hits the spot, and yes we will have to try to meet at some time to compare… :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Tribsa; Rich. I know that you know better than that, time off is so dam hard to get these days, and when I do get them tiss my wife oops sorry Harley that gets all the attention,we also will have to get together so as I can see that you really do have one

Hi All. Hi Shady yeah the old HD went to a mate of mine John Bowers so sitting in its place now is the 2010 Triumph Thunderbird  Bloody Lovely it is too, so far no regrets !! picked it up yesterday from 3 cross MC Ringwood wot a lovely day it was as well
Hi Mappo man of miles  ring ya in the week !! How was the Hols Pat ■■ Regards Jimski

Hya Dave, hope you and Liz are well. Must be getting near to your busy time now mate aye.
With regards to your above statement Dave, i must agree that during the 70,s and 80,s drivers abroad helped each other out either with mechanical breakdowns
or changing wheels etc.,even other nationalities.
Sadly though i found that in the 90,s guys seemed to be in too much of a hurry and would often often “look the other way” pretending not to see you if you had a problem.
Sign of the times i suppose. :frowning: :frowning:

Welcome back to blighty Pat, and Jimski i,ll speak to you during the week mate.

Hi Tony.I shall certainly pass your regards on to Terry. He usually calls in once a week for coffee. He has nearly drunk my cognac but no worries.Gazzer and Traniht have promised to bring me a couple of bottles when they return for the season. Not holding my breath! Regards Charlie

No disrespect Gentlemen but this is one of the reasons i decided to get out of driving, when i used to go with Dad,uncle and Granddad in the 70s & 80s things seemed so different, most drivers would help each other out breakdowns picking each other up on dodges etc etc i hope you know where im coming from :frowning: :frowning:

ON A LIGHTER NOTE I DON’T THINK HEALTH AND SAFETY WOULD ALLOW THIS NOW A DAYS.

FORSALE (POA)EXCELLENT CONDITION VERY LOW MILAGE ONE OFF SCANERF (so one off they only made one) ONE OWNER FROM NEW FULL SCANERF SERVICE HISTORY ONLY DRAW BACK IS YOU CANT HAVE NIGHTS OUT WHEN IT RAINS   (any comments welcome)
