Hi, I had a ex Wardels ERF, my boss had about a dozen from Grappenhall. They was all at the end of their life but they got doctored up a couple got robbed for parts. One ERF and a Marathon was doing spain for a while. I only did uk work but my truck(ERF B series 14 litre)lasted for a year or so it then was sold on. Was Southampton the head office or Warrington thanks

Hi John, Wardells head office and main depot was in Warrington.
In Southampton there were only half a dozen or so motors based in Greenwoods yard at Rownhams.
I,m embarrassed not only of photo,( thanks Pat ) but also of the fact that i actually did a trip to Belgium and Holland
in that Guy Big J and then a trip to Spain in one of their non sleeper ERF,s. Must,ve been mad, but it gave me a
yearning for the job and continued for various companys doing European work for 23 years.

Hi Tony Thanks for the reply. Dont bother about the hair mine was similar in the 70s and now its just hanging in there these day,s. And shade’s All the time.Mind you the weather was brighter then . I had some friends they had a comb over at 22 years old.

While driving for certain Trucknet members Dad, i had to spend a day there waiting for the
shift to change due to a discrepancy with mmm lets say the paperwork.
If you,re reading this Mick, i remember you parking there for the night in your 88 cos the guarantee no.
on one of T forms was wrong or summat.

In the early 70s a lad came to Pickfords Sheffield from Bakers Southampton and he was there until it closed. He then started on his own “Sheffield Machinery Handling” which he ran for quite a few years he will be retired now and I have not seen “Dixie” for a few years now and just wondered if anyone remembered Tony Dean from way back.When he first came he was a driver but went on to become a heavy lifting gang foreman which is how he went into the machinery handling side of things.
