Hello Pat, I last saw Mick Hennesy in the 70,s, he used to have a blue and white F88, he used to go to Italy every week, and he used to go with another bloke who had the red/blue/white colours of a Big Ford. They never used Thoresons and used the other ferry in Soton. I have got to try to find my brain. lol lol

Hi Richard that would be ‘Normandy Ferries’ they had the ‘Dragon’ and the ‘Leopard’
Hi Pat, what some good old pictures from Mick. I drove one of those old Bedfords but for the opposition, Hall & co.
Bull Bros. were actually my mothers cousins. Steve and Luke Bull , who I am told made their fortunes on the building of the old Winchester by-pass. When they packed it up with no sons to carry on and only a daughter, Luke went into the stable game breeding horses or something. Dont know what happened to Steve. As for Howards Timber, what a coincidence that I was only talking about them this afternoon with a neighbour !! Wish I had been there with you and Mick to relate the story of when he dropped his trailer on the weighbridge at Membury and me getting banned for life for dropping “George”. If you see him again do give him my regards and I’ll try to get over soon but am still on crutches even after 14 weeks but hospital next week.
Hi everybody, back on line at last, plenty of good pics been put on in my absence i see, well done Pat and others.
How was Mick Hennessy Pat? well i hope, a real gent is Mick.
I,m sure i mentioned it before that i did a few trips for him in his F88, and have posted a couple of pics of it on a previous page
of this thread.
Sorry to hear that you,re on crutches TIR and good luck in hospital.
John, with reference to above photo of my old Davies Globetrotter,if you,ve got the time to look through the back pages of
the Davies thread, you,ll find quite a few old pics of it.
What a great motor that was.Fitted with a kitchen pack and was my first truck with working A/C. What a luxury.
It was later owned by Tony ( HOT TO TROT ) Bradfield as has been mentioned before.
David Miller:
Also moving smartly on… There used to be a Southampton outfit that did continental with yellow Fodens. What were they called - can’t remember.
David. I think your thinking of PBC European. They originally started as a side line to Public Benefit Coal Co who ran Foden 8 wheeled tippers on long distance coal haulage. Coal was eventually dropped and continental haulage became the main business and ran successfully for some years. The M.D was a big Foden fan and drivers did the job with day cab units like it or lump it. Due to financial pressures they were sold to Cables Montague and renamed Cabmont International by which time they were using DAF 2800 sleepers. It was bought back and renamed British International running white DAF’s.This did’nt last long and was sold to Taylor Barnard who after a short time closed the operation

Mike. Had 10 happy years there despite all the bad comments they have had. Very clever people you had a set rate per job so if you had a plus on your diesel the only person you were ripping off was yourself. When Taylor Barnard sold up unbeknown to them they sold it back to the same people they brought it off. Tim Allen continued to run it for another couple of years same trucks same yard,
i think it was Beechmate T/A British International,

Hi John
I,m guessing you,re having a senior moment, like we all do.
Davies Int. Southampton is currently on this first page. You,ll see a lot more pics of it on there.
Mick looked very well when I saw him and we spoke about his F88 and he mentioned you!
A couple more of his pics
Earlier last week I had a visit from Portsmouth duo Martin Ruffle who’s dad ran transport and Arthur Porter who ran Windebank’s years ago said he would bring in some pics for me to post here is one I had from ages ago.
Hi Pat, some great old photos there mate, thanks to Mick for sharing them.
Shame that middle pic was spoilt by that old boy on the left with hands on hips. { sorry Steve }
I drove for R & G briefly in the latter years when Maurie Mc.ness was running the transport.
I was driving Jim Streets old C reg. Super Space cab Daf.I,d only done a few trips for them when i had to
give up work suddenly to care for my missus during her terminal illness.
Now i know Maurie was unpopular with a lot of people, and had his fair share of enemies but at the time i had to
leave in a hurry, and he could,nt do enough to help me, so i cant fault the bloke.
