Ray Caswell used to work for Cabmont,Pegasus and Interoute was his last Int. job,he now works for Wyvern Trsp.and has since leaving Introute.He organises a get together for drivers who used to go down to the Iberian peninsula every year,and a dam good job he does too. :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

:unamused: hi there pat, hope all is well down south, just spotted the pic you put up off van omerens motor ie: pitters motor, remember them well, just wondered if you could confirm to me if pitters are still running as i have not seen any of thier trucks about for some time mate, last i saw of them was when i lived in soton about 11yrs ago, they were doing quite a bit of conainer work, but like i say have not seen them about for some time. i can remember doing a lot of work for them years ago when they had all the cape fruit out of the docks, i had six scammeles on full time for them,i was running swindon transport in those days, had an office in queen street in the same block as foots transport, we used to load fruit for east kent packer then,load on a sunday then run with it on monday,tip the load then straight back to soton have a bit of nosh,an hour or twos sleep then start work again,used to meet the french boys and tranship cauliflowers and deliver them at night to the markets.Bev Wyatt. :laughing:

HI Bev
Yes Pitters are still going the haulage side only does containers now I think.It has been suggested on here & again I think they are right in saying that they are now Southamptons longest running firm.Theres a lot about them a few pages back & the coach side.
Cheers Rich

Hi Bev

Yes as Richard says they are still operating and I believe they are the oldest hauliers in Southampton see this;

coliseumcoaches.co.uk/pages/ … story.html

They had a pony and cart and the first lorries were in 1916

Regards Pat

Hi Rich

I’d thought I had seen 1896 on the back of a wagon, and I found out more about them here

Had a pleasant afternoon in the company of Mick Hennessy who brought in some pics for me to post.

This was the first lorry he had for Bull Bros Nutsey Lane Totton Southampton

This was for Howards Timber by Northam Bridge Southampton

Then R&G

Hello Pat, I last saw Mick Hennesy in the 70,s, he used to have a blue and white F88, he used to go to Italy every week, and he used to go with another bloke who had the red/blue/white colours of a Big Ford. They never used Thoresons and used the other ferry in Soton. I have got to try to find my brain. lol lol
