Hi Chaps & Chappetts
Here are a couple of snaps one I no nothing about except they must have come from Hayling Island & I took the pic some years ago at a Brands Hatch Truck Racing meeting

The other is a good local haulier again a few years ago in Totton Carnival
Hope you all enjoy.

Hi Rich,

i,m undecided whether the girl in the photo on the back of the Doveys motor is dancing
or about to fall over going down that slope.

Hi Pat
Welcome back nice to see you had one good lorry on the fleet.
Was Malcolm’s an ex Syms of Calne lorry ?
Can yuo ring please

Hi Tony
She must have seen me & was falling for me as all young ladies do

Hi Tony

Nice to get that sympathetic message

This is what happened for a while every day, however it was dry in the bar

I can’t remember what happened to that Volvo BBM 326T I do remember that the gearbox packed up and Dave Coombes repaired it, I got fed up with it and sold it, I will ask Jim next time I see him.

As regards Jim’s two finger salute I think it meant he had been two days loading

Regards Pat

A few more of Rob Rymers pics

I know Dallas were from the Kingston area but these were all taken locally

Through Twyford Hants

Hi
I have been reading this forum for a long time , as my HGV driving started in Southampton. Since moved on to all parts of the UK.
But I can thank the legend Dave Tutt for many happy days running with him all over Europe on for BKG, and he got me my first job with another legend Pat Duffy ( Duffy’s Dynamo’s ) but I made a pigs ear of that job and lasted 2 trips, do you remember Mr Duffy!!!
Still here is Dave in a flat top F10 at some stupid hour of the night as we race for the boat home. ( around 1985/6 )

Hi Marcus I vaguely remember that but the old brain is not what it used to be and to be fair I did have a few go over and a couple hijacked/stolen but never the less we dragged them back straightened them out and kept on going

Regards Pat

I’m glad the memory has faded, lol   I dont think you were that happy when we pulled back in the yard. I have some more pic’s of some BKG drivers and motors and did have a pic of my old 111 but think that might have been lost in all my moves over the years. Thanks for all the PM’s that caught us up on over the last 20 odd years . Hope you and your family keep well and I hope to catch up with you in person in the summer.

Cheers

Marcus

Hello, heres an old advert I found which is linked to the thread.

Is this the same link span that the old Bakers ERF went down several pages back and was the subject of debate of where exactly on the dock it was?

Cheers Marc.

Hi Guys,

I am new to this forum. I was wandering if any of you remember Bob McLeish, my Dad. He drove for Smithers in the Seventies. We lived in Blackfield. I remeber him taking me with him when I was a lad. The only driver I can remeber was Allan, last name I can not remeber.

Any info you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Anthony.

I remember your Dad, although I didn’t work for Smithers ( holiday relief once, but that’s all )
The Alan you’re talking about was probable Alan Parsons ? I think he was the shop steward for a time. frenchy and one or two others on this site, are ex Smithers lads., no doubt one of them will be on later.
Do I take it that your Dad’s no longer with us? or have I read that wrong !

I am afraid Dad passed away in 2006. His last Job was for Winkanton in Plymouth. He was contracted to BP and used to haul the black oil for the boats. The fumes from the fuel oil got in to his lungs and caused pulmonary fibrosis and connective tissue disease. He was forced to retire in 2000. It was the saddest day of his life when they took his licenses away from him.

My Mother Susan, and my Brother Mark are still in Plymouth. Mark Followed in Dads foot steps and drives for Tank Freight. Ironically contracted to BP. I now live in the US and work for a Caterpillar dealer in the Service Department.

Thanks for the info. I have contacted Frenchy and he has already replied. That was his name Allan Parsons. I think his wife’s name was Rita?

Sorry to hear that Antony.

I have a friend who is not on this site, but would remember your father well. I’ll get in touch with him and see what he can recall about him.

Thank you, it means a lot.

Bob Pester is another name that comes to mind.

I will get Mum to look through the pictures she has. She has a lot of pictures from when Dad was in Saudi & Libia. I will see if she will look for any from the old yard at Smithers.
