Nice story Bev but really was a nice fella when I knew him (decades ago).
For any thoughts people may have had on him, he was a very experienced driver in many fields. (and I don’t mean that literally !)

I think that you will find that Rodney Redgrave did an Open University course with Traniht on " How to dodge buying a round" Both managed to obtain a BA with honours.Only joking about you Ian.You got an MA

Hi both Pat and Bev, thanks for your help I think i’ve got there! Pat can you tell me what became of Alister Lane? I worked with him on Aquilla, I’m not sure if he was working for you then ,but I think he was. I think I met you when you brought a gearbox down to Vitoria (?) for John Nichols. I know that John is no longer with us (RIP) but what about Gordon Knowlton (?) I’m sure he was from Southampton area but I’ve just spent 8 years working for Pentalvers before I retired and no-one in Southampton claims to of heard of him. Unless he is hiding on here under an alias like that Nobby Stratton! There should be a few others on here that I know perhaps they might recognize my K.W. if it’s worked

Hi Gavin

Yes it has worked

Alistair Lane is still about the Winchester area (with his brother) although I think he has a place in France. I saw him about two months ago in the Baddesley Arms with Pat Scorey and had a chat, he doesn’t look any different at all. I think he had done abit of driving for Brian (Fingers) Young but not sure I will get an update on tomorrow hopefully as Scorey P usually comes in about midday and has a chat and a cup of tea!!

As regards Gordon Knowlton or Gordy I think he was called I think he came from the Poole area, didn’t he have a Transcon with twin stacks or was that someone else? I don’t know if he is still about but I expect to see Mark Compton on Friday at a funeral and I will ask him as he is from Poole.

Here is a pic of Alistair a few years ago when I had a yard at Eastleigh.

Regards Pat

 hi pat, do you remember a company called henry smithers■■? :unamused:

Hi Bev

Yes I do there are several pics on here by Frenchy earlier in this thread! They had a yard at Rushington green and white ERF’s I seem to remember didn’t they become/merge P&O Roadways??

Hi Gavin

Spoke to Mark Compton today Gordon Knowlton is still alive and well and driving for Wyvern Cargo Ltd Poole!

And Scorey P came in as usual and he had a call from Allistair and he was at that time in Tolouse, but he also said that he had been driving for Ray Wyre’s R&M Freight on the Hilliers work!

Regards Pat

Hi Pat thanks for that info, I had been told Alistair had moved to Greece! I should have known Gordon was at somewhere like Wyvern I’ve seen them coming into land on occasion! If you should have the miss-fortune to bump into either of them please pass on my regards.
Whose Volvo is this? I’m sure it was being driven by Alistair (on ant-mossie duties) out side Aquillas partners warehouse in Matoshinos.
I have a few pics of Portugal, I read some time ago someone was thinking of starting a Portugese thread but I cant find it. Any ideas?

Hi Gavin

That possibly was my Volvo the only one I ever had I know Allistair did drive it for me but paintwork was slightly different see here when Jim Ski had it. But the rest is the same TIR plate, air horns, red wheel trims, msingle mirror and number plate positions all look the same! Pity we can’t see the reg no!

Regards Pat

Pat
It looks like the same Volvo, but did you buy it from Mark Compton as he used to pull for Aquilla ,along with Kelvin Holloway , the give away it being an ex Compton,s is the double number plates.

Sorry to ■■■■ in on your S’oton thread lads but can anybody confirm that Powell Duffryn- PD Storage, had a oil/chem storage in Poole in the 70s. I’m sure I ran there from BP Baglan Bay with either styrene or vinyl acetate but an old mate of mine says it was at Barry. I know they had a place in Barry, can anybody confirm Poole then I can shut the old b***** up.

Thanks.
Chris.

A Bubbleman’s pic on the scrapbook thread with a Southampton link

Sea Route Ferry this was when they bought 4 Dutch 6X2 111’s 3 day cabs and a sleeper (I think)

Regards Pat

Pat, there used to be a guy with a White Road Commander who subbed for Sea Route when they were in Empress Road. Who was that?

Gazzer I think the White driver was Cardin and he lived somewhere out Whitchurch way I remember having a try in it around the Autoport Aosta

Would have a had a funny gear box for you to get to grips with Ian!
Snow here yesterday. -5 tonight.

I think Ian that his name is Cardin Wyndham.I last saw him one Sat afternoon in the cafe next to the Shell garage at Andover.(what was the ■■■■ name of it?) About 1983 He was running a tyre company in Andover. Remember when he was pulling for Sea Route he had brake failure.White gave him a loan lorry.I hate that word truck. It rhymes with that other word that I can no longer manage. They put the tractor in a container and away it went to the US of A.Dont know what happened to it.Bit boring really.I’ll say it before Gazzer does.Regards Charlie

Youre right it did have a strange gearbox two sticks but I only used one
But just remember my boy I learnt to drive on a David Brown box wasnt allways a Volvo person :frowning:
