Long Departed Southampton Hauliers (Part 1)

mappo

Hi Tony, was Anne married to Dave Philips at one time ? last time I saw him he was at Pitters.
Regards Richard
ps. like your new avitar !

Your memory is correct Rich, i worked with Dave when i was a lad in
the late 60, s early 70,s.
Only figured out how to put avatar on tonight mate.

Cant get mine small enuff!

I had a moving one removed from Bucket! BooHoo!

TAA 381T After it rolled they brought a ex BFC daf with a duff engine and just
swapped cabs.

This is when the job was done.

This is what was left you can see the old cab in background.

B929 RPR When new.

B929 RPR After a slight accident only chassis damage. The old BFC daf was
stripped down everything removed apart from the cross memebers. Everything
was fitted to the chassis axle, gearbox, airtanks, springs, engine, cab etc and
chassis resprayed put back on the road.

Then about a year later this happended in Spain. The engine was used for
another truck.

Ouch !!! Looks like that was one jinxed Daf Kev.

No fatalities i hope, certainly would,nt have got out of either
with just a headache, that,s for sure.

One of Eric Bakers on a linkspan, is this the old Southampton Docks? I think that is Vosper Thornycrofts in the background, anyone know who SPTS were? (The unaccompanied short tilt on the quayside)

Barker and Geary now at Kings Somborne

Rehards Pat

Hi Pat,

Couldn,t Foden have made those headlights a bit bigger ■■?

Great pic of Bakers ERF. I used to ship out of Soton with Normandy Ferries
and Townsend Thoreson from late 70,s but dont recognise that linkspan.
I,m sure one the more experienced guys on here will know, maybe it was the
old Seagull berth ■■?

Thats the old linkspan at 3 station where the Patricia used to dock.
Seagull wasnt down that end of the dock anyway.
And for god sake shrink your Avatar Tony 'cause you are ruining all the sites !!!

LTS must have been subbying that “kangaroo” as they didnt have any but they were associated with “Central Routiere” as featured in the R.K. Crisp foto.

Isnt that 30 berth in the Bakers foto?

A 300 Southbound , Southwark Bridge Road !!! hope you paid your congestion charge Gazzer !!!

Very early in the morning (no people) and 1996 before congestion charge!

Is that what is now Ocean Village?

I can look out of the window and see Vosper Thornycroft’s crane - about all that’s left of the place.

Hi 240 Gardner yes that is where Ocean Village is now.

Found this pic on the internet of one of Sunters.

Caption said loading Normandy Ferries Southampton, I’d say late 70’s ish!

Also found this pic of Townsend Thoresen Viking 1 on berth 7 in Southampton.

Is this the same linkspan as on this Bakers’ pic?

Regards Pat
