Long Departed Southampton Hauliers (Part 1)

old trucker:
I see a pic of "mums “n” dads " tractor unit ,PDW, MMD !!! Portsmouth , I did put something on here about , “Robert Bailies” a while back , no replies , Navy Blue Atkies , Would love to hear any info on , Ted King , Jimmy Farmer , Dave King ■■? , Henry ! I used to run over night with them "Up North " !! any info ■■? I know its Portsmouth , but its all Southampton really !!! ,Actually , i think Robert Bailies ran out of somewhere just north of Cosham ■■? not sure where !!!

Henry, is Henry Drystik (think that’s how you spell his name, his father was Polish ) was driving for Commodore Shipping out of Pompey. last I heard, lives at Cosham.

The County pictures have just reminded me that I saw a B-Series ERF in their colours pulling a plant trailer loaded with two County tractors on the M6 a couple of weeks ago - looking in very good (if workmanlike) order and going well too.

I passed my HGV test with Baillies in 1971 then drove for Luckets of Fareham
before moving on to Smith of Maddistons in Nutsey lane,Totton.

The guy with the DAF was called Roy. Did a lot of UK work for Eric Baker and a little bit abroad. “Roy Boy”, I’m sure he lived Chichester way. I’m sure Scorey P. would remeber him.

marky, the b-series erf was onced owned by county tractors ,it spent many years in a local saw mill called r f giddings,(in which waters bros do most of there work),transporting steam engines in its later life,a guy called mark osbourne of tom osbourne agriculture engineers, who still deal with the county product ,has recently restored it,i would have thought when you saw them, they were at the apf international forestry exhibition at cannock chase ,staffs.

hey tony i did not know you work’d for lucketts i started there in 1973 drove a 7-5 tonner then he put me through class 1 in 75 drove a mandator then a year later he put me through my psv small world eh

Hi Fergie47,

Don’t know if many of you will know who these two are!!

On the left is Bob Perrin (AKA Reggie) who had his own light blue F10 tractor and on the right is the late Albert Keebles (I think) out side my yard with the Henry Tyrer ERF and Tilt

Regards Pat
