Hi I had a visit from Paddy “Sandals” Keoghan today he was waiting for his DHL Mercedes Truck to be repaired at Nursling, so he walked around to the yard he sends his best regards to all and said he will bring some pics in.

Health and safety have caught up with poor old Paddy though he has to wear safety steel toecap boots now

Regards Pat

hi pat found these remember this in modana

Hi Ron

Some great pics

Yes Ian Beavis was very lucky to get out of that alive wasn’t it one of William Mark Youngs Scania’s from Uttoxeter that caught fire first?

Also your SEV928W the old man’s BOR721V and Paddy’s NAR608P I see you are the one on top of the tilt!!!

And is this Guy you two gave me a lift in all those years ago??

Keep em coming

Regards Pat

great to see those old ferry stickers , one missing though , Normandy Ferries !!! , fond memories of , The Leopard . The Dragon , and of course , the Panther , Remember the little book of vouchers they gave you , one for cabin , , meals and , your Duty Free ticket , free 200 smokes , used to give hikers a free crossing , book them on as co driver and claim their voucher book !!! 400 smokes !!! , A couple of other past memories , Andre Valleta transport from Angers , and anybody remember a young def driver used to run over with a red TIR tilt F86 drawbar outfit , i think he was owner driver , wonder what happened to him , nice lad , cant remember his name , and !!! A&M garages !!! How many of you lot had the “pleasure” of sailing in a force 8 on the" Autocarrier 2" Dover Zeebrugge 9 hrs !!! fantastic !!!

Hi Old Trucker

I had the pleasure of a really really rough crossing LeHavre to Portsmouth on the old flat bottomed Townsned Thoresen Trader.

That was a ride and a half my driver went straight to bed and in the morning had a bright red nose from moving up and down on the bunk

Regards Pat

I"ve heard of “carpet burn” on the knees , !!! but if thats how your driver said he got his sore nose then who am i to argue !!! Worst crossing i ever experienced was on the Leopard , Le havre / Soton , nothing had sailed that day , due out at 11.00 am , 2.00 pm still sat there , Viking 3 tried to get out through the breawaters but had to turn back , next thing we knew was an almighty rumble , full power from a standing start , went out through the breakwatewrs at full speed , force 10/11 , we found out later the captain wanted to prove a point to the Viking 3 captain , you cant do it , but we can !!! It was a bit bumpy , nothing a few beers didnt put right though !!! good fun looking back at it now but it wasnt at the time !!! Viking 4 was a bit of a tub also !!!

Two pics for Pat, NAR608P before going to live in Southampton.

Sorry to put my anorak on again,Marc.

hi pat do you know were this is its a long time ago the box van will give it way

Thanks for the photo of the sleeper cab V8 Mandator signwritten R.A.Lane.
This particular lorry was mentioned by me on more than one occasion on this site by reg. No. YTR 272J. Go back to the thread page 2 and you will see one of my posts in Feb.
The lorry was purchased new in 1970 from Princes Commercials in Millbrook Road by Ken Lane (Later to become Spring Road Haulage).
I first met Ken in the late 60’s when he was trading from a small office in Totton High St. under the name of R.A. Lane Haulage Ltd. Yes John Lee you are correcct, Kens’ wifes name was Rose. In fact it was Rose Ann and the company was set up in her name. At the time Ken was running a few tippers out of the Mendip quarries and only dabbled a little in general haulage with a couple of small4 wheelers. However he decided to have a go at international after applying for and getting International Road Permits. (Thats why I stayed friends with him. ha ha). He ran this unit for 2 years and was plagued with breakdowns. He even took it to Princes’ forecourt and threatened to set fire to it. The unit was driven by Freddie Blair for most of that time. One night in a drunken stupor in some Southampton pub, I purchased the unit from Ken in a deal done on the back of a ■■■ packet. This was some time in 1972 and I ran it for 2 years trouble free except for a fan belt ! It was sold in about 1974 to a chap from Fareham who ran as Ranmar Transport. He reckoned later that it was the best motor he had ever bought.

I’m fine thanks Paul, how are you mate?

Yes you are dead right the cab came from Snows of Bristol/Avonmouth and we and you converted it to LHD and put the extended roof on it so it could live again not sure but I seem to recall Barry finally took it to the Middle East.

No one would bother to do that these days!

Hey Paul you must have some pics to post let us see please
