Guess you got a day off to-day then mate ?
Yeh i,ve got a few welcome days off mate. Just chilling out
Her,es truck from front. Parked on Blanc next to Hocfun tilt
Although not from the Southampton area, i’ve found this thread very interesting, with some great pictures. Particularly liked the ‘Space-cab’ Mandator. Wish one of my previous postings for Peterborough hauliers had received the same level of response. Feel sure there must be some photo’s out there somewhere.

That Mandator was a rare beast as it had an AEC V8 engine as well as the high roof sleeper cab, which was made by a bodybuilder in Southampton. It was very roomy in side as the V8 allowed it to have a relatively flat floor. If I remember, it wasn’t that reliable though. Quiet a truck in it’s day, 1970 / 71 " space cab and V8, not a bad British effort. I remember Ken saying it was a tad thirsty, around 5 / 6 mpg . Kenny Lane was a very good sidecar grass track rider, and he won a few championships I believe.

One for you here Pat, there,s at least one of yours here mate.
Jim Street,s at back with his Daf, then is that Jimmy ski ?, then mine, one of
Comptons, another of Buzzers then yours & an STS in front. I took pic in Milan when we were weekended
Hi Tony
That does look like Jim Ski or (Tomakeski)
The green Scania could have been mine or Mark Comptons as it was an ex Sea Route 111 GCG130S that I had bought off Geordie Asher then sold straight to Mark then had a deal a bit later and had it back, if it was mine at the time chances are it was John Shaw driving. Here is another pic of it.
Regards Pat
Hi Pat,
Cheers for that mate, it might have been John Shaw but to be honest i cant
remember who else was there or even where that was we parked.
Must be going senile i reckon.
Regards Tony

Hi Tony, I found a couple of photo’s of the American trucks in Lorraines, will try and find out why they were there, also a shot of SCR 455 N the sister to the one you drove for Mick H.lifting off a container in the docks, think it was Eurohauls when new ? Can anyone tell me which port the photo was taken ?
The last one is Matsolex from Canute Road, they were taken over by GCA France who shut it down in the Nineties.

Had a chat with John Lee and discussed the R A Lane AEC and he told me that Ken Lane of Springroad Transport’s wife was called Rose and lived in Totton so perhaps this was Ken under another name for whatever reason!!!![]()
