Nice pictures.

Going back a bit around 74

China Clay , cornwall

A drop of Armstrongs wine

Hi Bubbleman thanks again some more great pics thank you.

I remember this Scania it belonged to a man in Poole behind Cecil Comptons yard Nathan Ambridge I think, he had a Fiat too if I remember correctly both on for Jameson Europa of Southampton, the driver of this Scania came on for me later Tony Burgess RIP

He is the one on the right with Dave Tutt at Winchester early 80’s

Water Brothers are still operating although both twins are over 70 I believe, Dave’s son Phillip is running it I think they have an FH and a couple of 4 Series now, really nice genuine people.

This is Ivor Truman he used to do a lot of heavy work for Hills of Botley probably their trailer, last Time I saw him he was working in the old Southampton docks.

FBK803W was one of two Centropa trucks (hence the CT on the door) that I brought back from Holland horrible paintwork but really good trucks mechincally, here is a pic of it’s sister with Pat Scorey at the Simplon.

Good to see some pics of Jameson Europa Scanias, dare I ask have you anymore please?

Regards Pat

Hi Ainacs
Great pictures of Bakers ERFs , Didnt HMC mean " Home made cab " ,
Used to see Bakers ERFs in Pirrellis with the real heavy cable drums and home made low loaders with the bellies skimming the floor . Bodger Bill became the Engineer on Smithers until his retirement , I remember George Jack , smashing fella , also came from Bakers to Smithers, always carried miniture bottles of some liquid specials for us to try , got some cine film of him with his new ERF in 78 somewhere .
Frenchy .

Hi Frenchy HMC stood for ‘Hampshire Motor Company’ it was acompany set up so that Eric Baker could make his own trailers, much the same as Hill’s of Botley, they had ‘Bridge Commercials’ I think.

Also Rush Green Motors the breakers from just north of London made RGM trailers we had a stepframe of that make once. Trouble was that although you would have say a 1978 trailer plate the axles etc could have been years older as they were inevitably made from old secondhand parts.

Regards Pat

Hi Ainacs
I used to listen to incredible stories about Eric Bakers specials being made up to suit the loads , he had some very experienced drivers as well , ran with a few , to put up with Erics sceaming I think they had to be , I saw him in Pirrellis making a din about a trailer that got stuck on a humped bridge and all the details of how the drivers cleverly got it moving again , I also remember there was a Baker shunter in Pirrellis , a real Gentleman , with an old bonneted Scammel with super singles on the drive axle , can`t remember his name but he loved his old Motor .
Frenchy

I know some of the drivers that were on for him,. Pat Scorey, Phil Dibden, Mick Winterbourne, George Eames, Mick Leech to name just a few. I dare say Charlie 1 or Tir Original will put us right with some more names.

PhilDibden drove this one taken from an article in a classic truck mag

Regards Pat

Trying to rack my old tired brain Pat. All I can come up with is Stan Long,Terry Sparrow and Chris Englefield. I’m sure TIR Original will have a lot more.

One of my all time favorite photos Pat, is of Bakers 6x4 F89 parked against the wall at Princes after service. But, you will have to wait until I get home before I can post it.

Eric was a hard man to work for and deal with but you learnt a lot from him and his ways. Scorey P. had a real soft spot for his daughter…she was as nasty as Eric but Pat couldnt argue with her!

Pat will remember my first trip to Italy, Metalcom and his disapearing Baker MAN, trailer and load. If I remember all he had left with him was his lump hammer because he was helping me unload my trailer! Pat never went anywhere without his lump hammer.

Yes Gary, Pat always had a lump hammer with him

I remember a couple of the last trips we did to Dijon to collect/deliver prototype fuel tank trailers on our stepframe from the Magyar factory, Pat had retired but jumped at the chance to get over the water again and yes he brought a lump hammer! We got off the boat and went in the Shell in LeHavre to fill up and out he comes with the hammer I didn’t know what he was up to but the clever old bugger used it to keep the trigger open on the fuel pump.

I’d love to see that pic of Bakers F89

Regards Pat

Found these old girls, should bring a few memories back for someone.

I believe the Guy is chopped down 8 wheeler.

Hi Marc you just keep 'em coming please I really am enjoying seeing these.

Further to an earlier post ref Bakers HMC ERF this was Hill’s of Botleys response a Bridge Commercials Guy

Thanks Marc
