Gazzer, from what I can see the first reunion was 2009 but for some reason all the pictures have gone from my laptop. Very strange. :sunglasses:

Why was it at the Wheatsheaf so long    Buzzer

Hi Buzzer. Maybe because Mr. Sheppard was an ex. driver and at one time I believe for Jameson. Long before your get togethers I popped in there for a drink and to say hello. To be quite honest I found the man ignorant and he really didn’t want to speak. At the time I was with someone else and I can’t remember who that was. I keep thinking Charlie 1 but I’m really not sure. Regards, Nobby.
P.S. Do you remember the D 1000 that PBC had at one time ? I think it may have been in your era.

Bang on the money mate, what an ignorant man. He was I believe Ron Griffith’s first driver on STS as Gerbil said and thought himself the bow locks and his did not stink but others knew different. Can vaguely remember the Ford you mentioned at PBC but was a long time ago, what a name though Public Benefit Coal Co my ■■■ the only one that did benefit was Franky Allen. He lived next door to me for a few years then went to live in France with Tim his son. My mother in law said he got done for putting big flat stones in the bottom of a bag when he filled them and retrieving them when he tipped the coal out, if anyone said ought he said they were for stopping the wind from blowing the empty sacks of the back of the lorry, cheers Buzzer

Hi all, buzzer John Ainsley AKA ginger was Ron’s first driver Tim had worked for someone up around the Alton area but no one from Southampton and when he finnished at STS he stopped driving. Him and Winkey were good mates in there youth. :sunglasses:

Yep Gerbil, Ginger Aynsley was Griffo’s first driver. He had an ex Middle east F89, all the lights and Kysor roof mounted air con. That would have been 1977/78 when I was at Prince’s and he turned up with it in it’s fresh white and green paint. It was not a local truck, probably bought from a dealer in London.

Yes gazzer i think ginger came from Horace Mr Griffiths asked Horace to find a driver so he gave him ginger. I am sure that’s whatHorace told me. :sunglasses:

Reqgards, Nobby.

Hello Nobby…thought I was the only one he ignored…on one of my rare visits to the UK Liz and I went there to meet up with Richard and Angie, and, Jimski and Jackie…Got there early, introduced myself as an ex driver having worked for Jim Squibb in the 1970 and expecting a bit of banter, but not a word, Liz comment on the sheer ignorance to not even acknowledge a fellow driver.

Second visit I was meeting up with Jimski, Buzzer, ( and Horry) Monty, Mappo. Pat (ainacs) Jim Street, and a couple of others, after a good natter and a lot of beers Buzzer generously offered to buy us all a huge round of sanwiches, it was 20 minutes to 2 pm, he was told food stopped at 2.00, John reminded him it was only 20 to 2,had no effect, he refused to do them.

I remember John says that would be last time he’d go there, I don’t think he ever did, well, not willingly anway…As a landlord and ex driver you’d expect to give a little more courtesy to a bunch of fellow drivers spending a lot of money over several hours…

They also have a couple of 26t CF low cab sleepers at Fair oak , which I’m believed to be told the drivers hate as they replaced the 3 AFS TGM Xl cabbed 26t
So the drivers have gone from a bungalow to a 1 room bed sit in terms of cab size

Hi Nobby, Just noticed your reference to PBC’s D1000, the first purchased was F reg V8 ■■■■■■■ engined, the second was V8 perkins (absolutely useless).
They were were originally on scrap and coal, by the time you used them abroad they were well past their sell by date.
However it gave a lot of young lads a taste of France,

Stroker.

Hoorrah! “My” first lorry!
When I drove it, it had lost the TIR plates, and gained a Zanetti mirror or two. 150 Gardner uprated to 180, mated to a DB 5-speed and 2-speed axle.
Power steering.
Lamberts did do a little Euro work, offnon, but twas rare. That unit had apparently done a trip to Milan with rose bushes from Hilliers.

Looking at the piccie? Old station?
Gas bottles, black drum, m/t pallets on back, it is probably hand-ball tipping bitumen blocks into a flat roofing company store?

Ed. Looks like a 33ft trailer too. There were just one or two of them left when I was there.
