Was Lowman’s taken over by someone called Price later on or am I barking up the wrong tree here, something in the grey cells rang a bell, Buzzer
Buzzer , I am sure that Prices Bakery was in Leigh Road Eastleigh on the site of the present police station. stroker 156 DOT

The current Police HQ, on Leigh rd, was Mr Kipling, Manor Bakery in the mid 70s, but I think youre quite right it was Price`s before that.
There was also a bakery in Toynbee Road, off Leigh Rd, by Eastleigh “Nick”.
Mr Kipling had their own transport with Jo-Rola(?) trailers if I remember. White/maroon Sed-Atk?
We did some market wholesale deliveries of cakes, tautliner, or rope and sheet (*honest!) as they wouldn``t use their own marked vehicles. The cakes sold to market were sometimes made for M&S or whoever, but because of cosmetic blemishes they were substandard. Tastes as good, but no marked packages allowed.
I think Price`s, Mr Kipling, Hovis, were all tied into or out of British Bakeries at various times? Very confusing.
*A special sheet like a wide flysheet to fit over pallets. Kept clean, and being careful, it could be spread over load without treading (of course) on the cakes. The sheet itself was all that was needed to hold cakes in place.

All very confusing Mr Kiplings were where Hendy site is now on, Leigh Rd and British bakeries were in Toynbee Rd all part of RHM latterly
Remember my mate Derek Miller RIP had a contact that worked there and was able to get hold of those sub standard cakes on the cheap, we used to get loads of the stuff but at the end of the day there is only so much Battenberg cake you can eat without being ill, Buzzer.
An aerial shot of Lorraines lorry park and also our old yard in Andersons Road which we took over from LTS, could someone go in and wake George up please, Buzzer

In the photograph,National Carriers workshop is v’sible top left, with part of Central Bridge just visible .
The current site is on sale for £6million + which includes planning permission for up to a 10 storey block of student accommodation
Angelsea Terrace top right.
Lorraines : Identifiable vehicles include Universal Freight box van trlr (middle right) . The Monsanto Leyland was a contract vehicle (Williams shipping ?) & next to it is a lo lo box which may have been a Bob Newman banana box. Dropped against The Angelsea fence is a 40’ ACL rag top.
Who had the 2 day cabbed Scania 80’s in the foreground ?
That second picture is before Lorraines time as no booth or fencing, it was just an open lorry park and pedestrians could just walk though it. I remember when it was like this and believe it may have been the Southampton lorry park and think there was another park in Briton street but an I right, Buzzer

The Briton St lorry park wasn’t very big & was located between the Telecom building & the NDLB offices. IIRC,it was also the “operating centre” for ■■■ (Tommy International Transport ) who had (at least) an ageing blue M.Deutz pulling for Hocfun (& its various reincarnations)
Cornwall’s Rowe Group (Eat fruit, keep fit) also used it as their Southampton depot
Once the fences were up at Lorraines & charging began for parking,Briton St became ever more popular
