When BR withdrew their So’ton passenger services. Otto Thoresen saw an opportunity & in 1964,Thoresen Car Ferries commenced a seasonal RoRo service serving Le Havre & Cherbourg. The services targetted Tourist & Coach traffic as the wheeled freight market didn’t really exist. But the following year(1965),TCF guaranteed a year round service & this accelerated the development of international road haulage. The Mont Blanc tunnel opened in July 65 & for UK operators,Le Havre was the nearest port for Milan & operators were quick to take advantage.

Initially, the Le Havre / Cherbourg routes were driver accompanied only & specialist markets quickly took advantage of the services, Racing Pidgeon Transporters,Horse Boxes etc but also own account operators .
Strongs Brewery quickly appointed a French agent , reloaded the Romsey vehicles with French beer for the UK market

Going back a bit, Buzzer

Appears a bit odd to sheet the rear sheet on top of the front sheet?

I thought the same but there also isn’t much rope holding the load so wondered if maybe it was only a local run?

What a plonker, he has sheeted that load arse backwards. :unamused: :unamused:

And, if it isn’t local, he will find himself with a massive air brake.

Cant see much sense in sheeting like that. Plus the front sheet only just reaches the headboard, so thatll be letting air in too.
Not a deliberate idea to ventilate fresh fruit is it? Does the sheet cover the back of the load, or is that open to let wind out too? Only a guess.
