Thats a blast from the past Chris, you mentioned Adrian Mills who IIRC had a scrap yard between Thornhill roundabout and Tesco roundabout, old blondie got planning on it and now all houses now, then he had a place near Durley village hall I believe, Buzzer.

Memory jerker for me on FB as my first International driving job was with PBC European Transport driving a non sleeper AEC Mandator for £35 a week all in, Buzzer.

To be fair PBC changed names to Cabmont then British International so you had a job to keep up.

These were Saturday seminars held at Fawley & were Safety & Operational training programmes which were mandatory for drivers & haulier management.They started in 1984 & led to regular audits of drivers & vehicles which loaded or discharged at Fawley’s Paramins / Energy Chemicals plants These audits culminated in the Driver of the Year competition which in 1989 was held at The Polygon. 29 drivers qualified & during the evening,6 drivers reached the final.

Gerry Rose RIP He was a good lad grew up in Nursling later emigrated to Thailand where he died at a very young age. RIP mucker

RTD was his dad Godfrey? Dad worked with him at Conoco, Gerry did a couple of jobs for me went to school with my brother
