An Ergo Octopus sleeper, a bit of a rare beast. Wouldn’t fancy spending the night right under that clattering frigo though. :frowning:

Some excellent photos of Public Benefit Coal , as we have both said before about the tax account position on presenting the books for a sale or transfer.
Is Frank still alive , the last time I saw Tim was on a BF ferry to Ouistreham ,where he owns property in France?
And his office side kick Peter Taplin aptly named by BI drivers as “ The poisoned dwarf “ with the telephone manners of a wicked old witch .
Tim was a very astute and clever business man , even though I was paying my own GIT insurance to pull his trailers, I paid his insurance at £75 per month on top .

And their dreaded high volume step frame tilt trailers which could take a half a day to strip down or rebuild them again, in the extreme European summer heat or in a freezing winter, that is no fun but you did lose weight.
The pool of water on the trailer roof , so when you braked hard and left your sunroof open , you only make that mistake once.
Ex BI drivers were Stuart Smith aka The Animal, Peter Stainbridge aka Jellylegs, Aldridge Dad and Son as one was called Popeye .
Scouser John Povey, one hitter from Dieppe to Lisbon in a day and a half, Trevor Sweet among many others .

Was it Stuart Smith that died in his sleep in the cab, if it was that was his home as he lived in it all the time

Hi mate Frank Allen was my immediate nabour for several years ironic as I worked for PBC my first International job, he later moved down the lane in Bursledon into a flat, then his wife died but he stayed on eventually going to live with Tim in France where he passed a couple years ago. Did that Peter Taplin have blond hair as if he did I remember him also, what years did you work there ? as curious now, Buzzer

I was with BI from 1990 onwards, their port to port traction rates ,as I didn’t run in the UK were very good for the time , and Stuart was killed hitting a broken down coach in. Spain on a trip to Morocco, I think he was driving for Saviles , the mechanic or coach driver was killed as stood at the back of the coach .
The police blamed Stuart and he did live in cabs as did when on for BI.
Taplin has brown/black hair .

Thanks for that about Animal, I was confused, it was Gorgeous George found in his cab just before Villa F.

Another BI driver died in the BP truck stop at Saint Andre de Cubzac Bordeaux, he had a boil on his bum lanced in Miranda de Ebro Burgos with an infected needle.
He was AWOL for a few days or more, no trackers back then and found dead in his cab and the cost of bringing the body back .
The Animal was well known and a very funny man that gave the appearance of being aggressive but he was soft as putty and would help anyone out .
Including helping me rebuild a tilt in the gypsies trailer park which BI rented , he didn’t have to help but did .

There is a story on TN about Animal in Victors having a joke with the waitress and pretended to eat the fish in the tank .
BI had an office in Leca de Palmeria Matonsinhos which was handy for the lady bars , the fire station next door let us use their showers for a few quid .
The famous Parrot Bar owned by Ricardo was near too and his rigged telephone where he made a fortune on sailors ringing home with price per minute charges.

It was also Stuart that saw me skipping meals and drinking diet shakes and pills that swell the stomach to dissipate appetite, he said what the hell is that , bin that rubbish and eat three proper meals a day as you need it working all day .
I followed his advice on eating properly and his advice for diarrhoea and food poisoning, and it was a strong expresso and chase it down with Portuguese Pegaes which is about 70 % proof which kills the stomach bugs .

The boys on a roll now !!

A decent motor
