Long Departed Southampton Hauliers (Part 1)

HRS:
Hi All,
Just had some very sad news, on the 18th November Gordon Crittell passed away.
Gordon and i worked to gether at Princes Commercials Southampton for about 10 years ( 1975–1985ish).
He was workshop foreman AEC and moved into sales about 1973 i believe.
His wife, May, has family arround her so is ok, a lovely man of our industry gone.
R I P Gordon, Harvey

Hi Harvey,

I am sorry to hear of Gordon’s passing,I first met him in 1965 when Princes were an AEC dealer run by Mr Prince and his son Michael,Gordon always wore a brown cow gown and I can still see him wandering around the workshop checking on everybody, with Walt Safe running the stores with Barry Pudney.
Please pass on my condolences to May and his family.

Richard

Will do Richard.
I remember Walt and Barry well and later Matin Tomlinson workshop manager.
I have sent an e-mail to Eric Petitt and his wife Shirley.
I think michael joined a tyre company in Romsey many years ago, at least that is what I heard !! Take care, Harvey

Richard. Many thanks for delivering my goodies. It was very kind of you to help out an old pensioner who is down on his luck.I shall repay the ten bob note you lent me when my ship comes in!

Jeremy. Thanks for you jocular remark. No offence taken. Just watch your back.

Buzzer. Thank you so much for the beautiful shallots. I had some for my tea last night with a piece of strong mature Cheddar. Cracking. I can still taste them now! Pleased your leg is a little better. Don’t do too much. However that will fall on deaf ears. You’ll just go on doing what you want to do eh?

Best wishes to all on here. Regards Charlie

Sorry Tone, I know you started your driving career on a 1916 ex WW1 chain driven Thornycroft progressing to the old steam driven Fodens, so it came as a massive suprise you actually drove an
M reg Guy…anyway, hope you’re well, and that they’re looking after you in the asylum… :unamused:

Hi Dave, wow what a memory you’ve got to remember what i first drove, but i was only following
in the footsteps of my elders ie yourself, Charlie and that MaggieD bloke… :unamused:

Yes i am being well looked after by Matron thanks, hope you and Liz are both well mate…

Hey Mappo. Just remember I’m old enough to be your father. Maybe just maybe. I used to cycle from Alton to Fareham about a year before you were born. Bit of a coincidence eh?

Anyway enough of that son. Hope you had a nice day yesterday. I just sat here in my little room
Weeping to myself and eating the shallots very generously donated by Buzzer And transported by Mr Evans of Wellow International How he got down our road I’ll never know. The downside to the day came when the shilling went in the electric. Anyway a very Happy New Year to you all on here. I hope that 2018 is the best one yet.

Regards Charlie
