Long Departed Southampton Hauliers (Part 1)

Hi All,

Jimski thank you for the backhanded complement about me being old,but wearing well !! I remember Steve telling me the story of his trip back from Iran and having to tie a poster of the Ayatollah on the front of the truck to help his escape.Another brilliant model,it’s a shame Phil (R.I.P.) couldn’t be here to see it he would have been made up.The Turbostar you did for me has just passed it’s annual MOT without a problem

Charlie & GAZ IOW Good news I have just received my new DKV cards so will replace those old ones at the bash, there are also several invoices outstanding which Angie will bring with her,so make sure you have plenty of cash, she will not accept payment in kind.

Ray hope you are well “Up North” I remember the loading off the camber days I thought there was 25 hours in the day !!

Mappo please refer to the Davies thread for information relating to your court case in Italy as reporting restrictions mean I cannot discuss it on here, I am trying to get you into a prison in Sardinia with a sea view.

Gazzer your comment earlier**" mommie ■■■ sucking insecure fogies"** I resemble that remark but I’m not a fogie !!

Baldrick Hope you and Sue are well and Ryan Air will be able to transport you to the bash as it would be good to see you both.

Just to finish Angie took this photo last Thursday in Romsey, she couldn’t get out of the office to get a better photo before it drove off, but she thought it was one of Daltons old Globetrotters going to pastures new.

Regards
Richard

Hi Richard, I hope you are well. It was a struggle to see how many hours in a day
when you had the “Cole Porter” dark glasses on. I mentioned to Tony “Matchsticks” Mapson
that I hoped to come down to Soton for the round up bash, and meet some of you buggers.
My wife informed me that we are going to a christening on that day. Next year perhaps.

Kind Regards, Ray.

MaggieD…it is with great sadness that having read your comments on the Davies thread regarding that whistle blower
" Fingers ", i will have to " come clean " and do some namedropping… :unamused: :unamused:
I refuse to take the rap for acting on behalf of previous employers,me just being a poor humble lorry driver trying to do an honest
days ( and nights ) work…
I have been in touch with the aforementioned Italian gentleman, and he,s prepared to change his statement and clear my name
as long as i contribute ( again ) to his now dwindling retirement fund…but 10,000 lira will no longer buy his silence…
So Mr.Evans if you could kindly send me a blank cheque i will liaise with " Fingers " as to the final amount…
If you need any help to boost your bank balance to cover what will be a substantial amount, i hear Charlie,s worth a few bob…

Plan B

If it all goes ■■■■ up, i will be lying low and going undercover with an old friend on the " emerald isle "… :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Ps…I saw a mention on F/B this morning that Daltons have finished…dunno if that,s correct… :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Hi Ray, sorry you cant make it mate, though to be honest you,re doing yourself a favour…
So many of the attendees of the bash are rogues and scallywags and would lead you astray…

Hi Tony.

I have posted a cheque to you today,so please don’t worry :unamused:

You are right Daltons closed their doors on Thursday night,I hope Ian Elkins and the other lads find work quickly.

Regards
Richard

Sculduggery was afoot there in Romsey Richard…Daltons are no more and the equipment was dispersed for reasons best known to the Directors, aledgedly…that photo could be crucial!

Hi everybody, this one is for Richard or Buzzer, now that the brits are leaving the EEC will the rules and regs revert back to what they were in the 70’s ? Salut Andy

Andy truly we don’t know but there is a thread on TNUK named WTD working time directive if you want the views of others. Usually transport related issues are never the top of any government in power but we definitely don’t need to go back to customs clearance and permits for sure and “Fingers” is in retirement now and has an on going court case with Mappo which Richard Evans QC is handling, suspect the result will not be a true reflection on the facts of the case as all three there is some doubt on the credibility side of things.
You must be roasting there in southern France, mind you we are having it hot over here at the moment just hope Mappo don’t unearth his short shorts and matching sandles.
Going back to the WTD we have to many rules made up by the EU which we seem to be the only ones following the rest just put on the back burner and then they don’t follow them like us stupid lambs to the slaughter. We are still in at the moment and until the wheels are in motion to actually retract from the EU that’s how we stay, I don’t agree with that working for gods sake if you have a referendum and vote out it should be immediate and not protracted, the sooner the better as far as I am concerned.
As for a slump in trade here that’s just not happening as the pound got weaker export is picking up and most companies involved are reporting an upturn despite all the scare mongering. They are more competitive and It is my opinion that this will get better and better and maybe put the “Great” back in front of the Britain.
You will have to see what the veritable QC Richard of Wellow has to say but he is no longer into the big trucks he just pontificates about with a couple of three wheeled pickup backed Isetta’s delivering a few parcels and letters and occasionally has a trip over the water but time will tell and lets see if he retort’s, all the best Buzzer

Jimski:
Another one done !

Jim
another brilliant model, I like the shiny Tarmac??, I think you need to get them all back for a Truckstop photo■■?
all the Best Jeremy

I totally agree Jeremy. That Jimski is a leg end. He told me he could go into mass production. Just looking for a sponsor Buzzer! I would do it but the lottery let me down. Only needed six more numbers! Hospital on Monday. A little light lasering If it works then I can reapply for my brief. Who said keep death off the roads! Hope you are all well out there and enjoying the sunshine. Looking forward to the 28th. Regards Charlie

Hi Andy,

I hope you and yours are keeping well in the south of France, do you remember that young chap who used to do the French groupage for STS,where is he now ■■

In response to your question regarding the exit from the EEC,and my learned friend, farmer, haulier, and jam maker M.Davies’s comments. I can’t see us reverting back to the old T forms,Permits etc. either, and would not want to. Although it was the start of the decline in UK international haulage when they abolished the borders,it’s so easy nowadays to travel through Europe, even in a 3 wheel Isetta !! The thing that has niggled me in all the years doing International work is the fact that foreigners can come over here and drive on a Sunday, but we have never been able to do that over there, except Fridges, and Fridges loaded with rubber !!  not a level playing field. If we go to Poland now they put a box in your cab when you go in and you pay when you leave, why don’t we do that in this Country ■■
I take my hat off to John’s sons Horry and Steven running International in these difficult times, with all the legislation nowadays.

I’ll have to go I’m on the waiting list on the Viking Valiant and Serge in Le Havre says " It’s not for me you know" as yet another driver lifts him over the counter :unamused:

Regards
Richard

Jimski:
Another one done !

Hi Jim,

That looks excellent, I think Phil (RIP) would loved to have seen it and it would have brought back a few memories of going over the Mont Cenis!

Good look with the next one!

Mark

Well I know you don’t wanna go back to T forms and permits BUT I reckon there will be some thing along the same lines, but called some thing else ! Cos were out the EU they will make sure we know we’re out by making transiting Europe difficult !!
But as soon as they established what kind of paperwork will be needed to transit EU territory I’ll get my printing press running so there will be plenty of what’s needed, at a cost of course !
Mappo will have a new job as distribution Manager of anything needed !
Jus like the old days ! But differant
See you all soon !! I’ll be bringing the Isle of Wight crew !!

Found on the net.

Hello Soton Lads, It is competition time again. Where is this location ■■
The prize for the first correct name out of the hat will be a free pint
of beer at the round up at “The Wheatsheaf”,a week next Sunday.
However, one particular geezer at the bash has already seen the picture,
so he cannot enter the competition. But he may try and win it by using
a “Nom de plume”, the rascal. Regards, Ray Smyth.

My lips are sealed Ray…nudge ■■■■ wink wink…
