Hill of Botley had a few like that with the P6 engine. As a nipper, in the winter months, one of the jobs was to help start them up with jump leads and areostart…started a milk wagon up once, and the engine started running backwards…did a runner, seemed the only sensible thing to do…
when you’re only 15…

Hi does anyone have any pictures of the trucks operated by Graham Moody, my Dad drove for him in the early 70’s but never took any pictures sadly.I don’t have any pictures from back then but here are a couple of ergo cabbed Leylands Dad tinkers with these days
It’s the SMELL that hits me from pictures like these. Anyone who has ever hauled straw or hay will know that heady, dusty dried cereal and diesel mixture… Robert
Hi
Just heard from John Pike who now lives in Italy. He had to go into hospital for a heart op on 27th January he had to have a new valve fitted! The op went well but he developed a lung imfection and is still in hospital and reckons he will be there for another 2 weeks.
Regards Pat
Sorry to hear that Pat, I first knew / worked with John in the mid 70,s when we both
drove for Henry Smithers.
If you contact him Pat, please give him my best regards, and hope that he fully recovers.

A shame for Southampton. There have been a lot of firms long since gone now. LTS,Sea Route,STS,Norman Offer but one “company” around then and still is now is Brian Young Transport. No mean feat considering how the industry has changed so much in all these years.

Brian ’ fingers ’ Young…I ran with Brian many times back in the day, as
an owner driver then…nice fella.
I seem to recall a very distant memory of him driving for Springroad Transport.
Perhaps that,s wrong but I,m sure someone will know.

I am not certain but I think Brian Young finished last year I know he gave up his yard over Woolston as he asked Terry to move his container!
Are you sure you don’t mean ‘Jock Youngs’ of Eastleigh?

Hows about the famous " Buzzer " Davies. A legend in his own lunchtime. Now semi retired but a carriage driver of considerable repute. And what about his sausage making skills. Pickling factory. Jam making. Market gardening. Cattle breeder And all round nice man.And the firm DIT is going from strength to strength. And finally he found time to help a poor old pensioner out when he had a problem with his camper van. What a wonderful man.Not over the top am I John? Regards Charlie
