Long Departed Southampton Hauliers (Part 1)

Here’s one for Richard, HT Transport I remember well think they came from Westbury in Wiltshire cheers Buzzer/

Just found some old photos packed away. A pic of a Cabmont Berliet. No idea who that driver is…

One like this a Balders, Frank Allen had four of those all with telmar retarders which coincidently matched the drivers, cheers Buzzer

Bloody hell Balders, I was just admiring yer clogs when the photo disappeared. :open_mouth: :open_mouth:
I did of course purchase a pair, well it was the law when you were young and cab happy :unamused: :unamused:
Not the furry ones I might add…I wore them once and couldn’t,t get on with ,em…so if anyone is
interested in a pair of 30 odd year old clogs, as new, don’t hesitate to contact TIR Tone c/o The worn out and
knackered Lorry drivers Hostel, Derby road.

Hi JD… Its back on now, I thought I’d cropped the photo wrong…Spot the old Truckline sticker in the windy?

Hi Tone I have always bin a clacks man me self and still where them today, you can still get them even now cheers JD

Think that truck may have been loaded with brewers grains used for animal feed, this was the spent leftovers from the beer making industry and James did a lot of that, but I may be wrong cheers Buzzer.

PS. My old man used to go to Strong & Co in Romsey and collect the very same stuff as did many farmers.

Pat…are you thinking of Dukes Mills…

Thanks for that!

It must have been a different company at Bishops Waltham then!

When I put a sleeper on my old AEC Mercury I used part of an old yellow cab to extend it, I am sure the yellow cab doors had James in red on them!!!

James Duke in Bishops Waltham and Ashford Duke ran the Romsey Mill and later took over a mill in Fordingbridge and I worked for him briefly until I wrote the company Vauxhall Viva van off into a herd of cows on the forest at telegraph cheers Buzzer.

Robert Armstrong had GHO94*N possibly 9N as an F88. But I cant remember George Thorne’s and Nick Vospers. Very close to that plate of 6N. If it was an Armstrong vehicle then the air-con was added after they got rid of it. Most of their 4 wheelers were F88’s if not all.
