We’ve got “The Great British Bake off” , “Come Dine with Me” , “Baywatch” . and “Splash” all on this page who needs Sky ?
Remember Lowmans workshop at St Denys used to supply all the parts for their BMC FGK’s in the early 60’s.
I think nostalgia is a thing of the past
Happy New Year to everybody.

Richard
Hi Richard
I believe Brains Haulage took over the Lowmans Bakery workshops in Dukes Road when Ron Stillo bought them, by the way Les Slater and Ron’s son Colin(RIP) worked there.
Regards Pat
I also think that Asgood’s rented one of the workshops in Dukes Road by Horseshoe Railway Bridge and Brains were around the back! Further along Dukes Road and opposite Stan Haysom (ex grass-track racer) had an old Nissan Hut as a Motorcycle Workshop.
Good to be back home Pat I`m sure. Being waited on hand and foot can get boring after a while. Now a lot of physio. How long before you are behind the wheel again? Not long if I know anything about you.Stay lucky mate.Regards Charlie

Hi Charlie & All
Not easy being home like being without the safety net that hospitals provide!!!
Felt lousy this morning so Sue called a doctor out, he reckons the problem maybe that I have come off the sleeping tablets the hospital gave me every night, so it’s a bit like “cold turkey” I suppose, he also said this could last maybe a week or so!!!
He thoroughly examined me and gave me a clean bill of health, blood pressure, heart rate, temperature and oxygen levels etc.
As regards getting back driving not sure when that will be! My left arm needs some work but I am walking very well albeit with one walking stick, I have worked really hard and my left leg is now very strong, in fact nearly back to 100%.

Hi Pat, glad to hear your home and your health is improving. sometimes just leaving the “comfort zone” of the NHS can give you concerns but I’m sure your family will provide the support you need. my only advice would be …Don’t rush it…

Any one remember Lowman’s who had a huge bakery in Shirley think they had a shop and tearooms in the high street as well any one remember them, also plaisteds pies who had a shop in the central bus station, used to get a pie on the way home from swimming on a Saturday b4 catching the bus home, they were so hot you could’nt eat them till you got to Totton cheers Buzzer.
I dont know if you are aware that Plasted Pies did move to Shirley High St opposite the police sation when they shut the shop at the bus station.Regards Todd
Have a snicky feeling they also had a shop in East Street as well, or am I dreaming. Your right about the gravy Jim that’s what made the buggers so hot they would burn your tongue, JD.
Plestead’s pie shop had been in Windsor Terrace since 1933.The queue was often out onto the pavement but you could always see the staff making & baking the pies.Until meat rationing ended,Plesteads often sold out before noon. It wasn’t just the meat pies which burnt the mouth,so did the fruit pies!
When the Grand Theatre was demolished in 1960,the east side of Windsor Terrace was redeveloped Pleasteads,Lowmans &the fish & chip shop all had new premises (IIRC the chippie was the Friar Tuck & upstairs it had a fish & chip restaurant )
The Plestead family sold the business in1978 & when the Marlands was built, the whole of the bus station, the Lord Louis PH & Windsor terrace were demolished.Under the new owners,Plesteads opened a shop in Shirley High St & one in East St which closed about 5 years ago
