HI Pat dont think Gooj worked for Nolan’s but his brother Kevin did for some time, his aka was “mr sheen” as he used copious amounts of the stuff in his truck cab, cheers Buzzer.
mappo:
Buzzer…I have to correct you, Pat was Right. Gooj definitely did a spell on Nolans with his brother.
Well blow me down Mappo he’s had nearly as many jobs as you mate, cheers Buzzer.
PS.sorry Pat.
Hi John he did work for Nolan’s met him on the ferry one night from Pembroke to Rosslare, when I was taking my dad over for a few days to see all his family, brothers and sisters etc. We were at the desk getting keys for a cabin when I recognised Andy in the queue in front of me, so I said in a loud voice “bloody lorry drivers alway’s holding us up” Andy looked around with daggers in his eyes till he saw me and said “what the f**k are you doing here?” We had the crack and as it was late (about 2.30 in me morning) went to bed.
Dad has not been to Ireland now for about 7 years as the journey is too much for him and at 94 he has buried all of his siblings and he was the oldest!!!
Sue and I are off to the Emerald Isle in March to celebrate St Patrick’s Day with our daughter in Dublin and have a tour around in the car.
I may be wrong but I think this might be the same comany?
Sorry pat i think you are wrong C.Roberts was a removal firm who had a warehouse in St Marys area,Les Slater looked after there motors and they did quite a bit for the council clearing out places when people were evicted and he told some gruesome storys about the state some of the places were left in.On the other hand F.H.Roberts were based in a wharehouse near the coalporters rowing club on the Northam bridge and they specialised in delivering news print, happy to be of assistance and hope my facts are right but Slatey will confirm, cheers Buzzer.
Regards Pat

Regards Pat

robthedog:
Copied over from sbt Cabmont used to have a depot in Southampton i think.
Your right there robthedog cos Franky Allen sold it to them on a bogus set of accounts and they got suckered into buying his company PBC European and i think he got took to task over it but not sure.cheers Buzzer.
One Christmas, Jane Hardman from Truckline was having a few celebatory drinks on the last ship to sail from Poole. She decided to stay when the ship sailed, fuel injected, her idea was to come back on the Pilot Launch, as if!
She went to Cherbourg with no way back. Fortunately she got on the PBC plane that had been sent for their late drivers, thanks Frank!
Here is a picture of a very good friend of mine sadly no longer with us a very young Gerry Whelan he drove for Astran and then bought KJN671P from them and worked for them as a subby, I then bought KJN from him and it went on STS work to Europe. At that time Gerry lived at Fordingbridge he later had a pub in Ireland and then drove in the States for a couple of years befor dettling in Ipswich where he died of cancer a few years ago, RIP Gerry
I used to pull trailers for BI when Tim Allen was in the Sholing office with Peter Taplin, they had an office in Porto ran by Manuella de Caldaverio and her hubby had a shoe warehouse, the BI drivers could pay a few escudoes for a shower in the fire station in Leca de Palmeria, all the BI drivers were the salt of the earth, i can remember them all , Stu the Animal Smith, Ken Hughes, John the scouser Povey, father and son Aldridge, the dad was called Popeye.
Peter Jelly legs Stainbridge.
The parrot bar next to the Porto office with a very expensive call meter on the phone, it must have been “rigged”, for the drivers and sailors calling home.

Hi Pat,
Great pic of Gerry, Angie still sees Minnie who lived with Gerry in Fordingbridge, Minnie now lives with Roger Bastable who used to have Abbey Hill Car Transport another great character like Gerry !
Hope you and Sue have a good time in the Old Country.
Eddies turnups were dual purpose, one to stop him tripping up and the other he used to empty them out once a month and get all the loose change out to by a dinner, cheers Buzzer.
Hi this company T Paynes of London had a very close working relationship with Ken Oakley who had an office in the High Street, Southampton. I did quite a lot of work for him in the 70’s with my TK Bedford’s, mainly out of Solent Canners and Cookson’s of Bishop’s Waltham.
