Anybody remember a firm by the name of Alan/Ab Watkins from the Soton area?
Can recall fixing a puncture on one of theirs at greasy joes in the early 80s

Alan Watkins ran out of a yard in Huntspond Road which runs between Parkgate and Titchfield, there was a house attached to the yard and a tatty old tin garage where repairs and service work was carried out, they did alot of work for Sweetheart Plastics up and loaded out of Port Sunlight on returnwith soap products. They ran mostly ERF’s with a few Leyland Marathons as well,Richard Sharp did most of the maintanance work and he is still about doing similar work.Alan Watkins liked a tipple or three and could often be found in the Coach and Horses public house in Titchfield, which has now been demolished and new houses are there now, as such is the case with his old yard, cheers Buzzer.

Sorry pat i think you are wrong C.Roberts was a removal firm who had a warehouse in St Marys area,Les Slater looked after there motors and they did quite a bit for the council clearing out places when people were evicted and he told some gruesome storys about the state some of the places were left in.On the other hand F.H.Roberts were based in a wharehouse near the coalporters rowing club on the Northam bridge and they specialised in delivering news print, happy to be of assistance and hope my facts are right but Slatey will confirm, cheers Buzzer.

When I first started with Michael Chappell we wre running from his farm in Old St Stubbington, before opperating from his house/yard at Whiteley lane Titchfield and now at Shedfield
As for Alan Watkins before Hunts Pond rd, his lorries were parked in the old tanneries at Titchfield. still see Pete and Bam Bam (Watkins) around Titchfield village Regards Mark.
Hi Mark, i to remember Bam Bam and as i recall he used to be the lost leader in the Watkins outfit, named i believe after Fred and Wilma’s baby in the flintstones. What is he doing now ? dont remember Pete so much but its a long time passed 30 plus years, cheerio for now Buzzer.

Hi John. Paul/Bam Bam has worked at Sydenhams Timber yard Wickham for years, Pete has always worked for the gas board. Steve and David were their older brothers. Steve ran the company with Linda in the office, while Alan took a step back and was growing strawberries at the bottom of the yard. After Alan died Steve and all carried on, but Steve died not long after his dad, very sad he was of no age. After that Bam, Pete and David were at the yard, I cant remember whether they packed up or sold up, but didn’t Richard Tapper end up with the yard ? Regards Mark.
Hi All
They sold to Dave Wellman Richard Groves & an accountant they went bust & Tapper got his mitts on it somehow.
Cheers Rich
