a couple of pages ago i posted a pic of one of your trucks which looked like it was taken at a show (poss. Dorset Steam) do you show motors?

Colin

Hi again Colin

I don’t do the shows but Terry Moody sometimes takes the Scania to them!

Regards Pat

Who remembers these?

They had a depot opposite what is now ASDA but at one time was Carrefour near Chandlers Ford.

Hi Colin.

can remember E156 OAD. Used to belong to Ian Elkins. It was ex Chritiansens of Denmark. He then sold it to Paul Stephens (F-T) and wee jock drove it for a long time. I can recall Paul owning quite a few motors then with some Mercs as snapped in Lorraines and were all on for Dual Carriage. Cheers.

Hello Pat, hope you’re both well…

I do, but long long time ago though. Did they amalgamate / taken over / re-named as Totton Tar Distillers ? Jim Street used to drive for them at one time, TTD that is, not TLA, he’s not that old !

Tarmac took them over in 1971

Although I remember Carrefour I don’t recall Trinidad being opposite,
can you remember the haulage company just down from Carrefour/Gateway. there was a farm where
the BMW garage and others are now, think they may have kept motors and had workshop over Chickenhall Lane as well?

Hi Colin

That would have been BFC or ‘Barry’s Flying Circus’

Regards Pat

Hi Pat,

You’ve done it again.

Common Barn Farm was the place up Chetnut Ave,

I think after the demise of the truck business he had shares in a MOT station on his land and then moved to tyres from an outlet in Shirley area.

I also have a vague memory of a mobile tyre repair company that ran alongside BFC.

I think that was a man called Bill Aldridge, I know that Barry Jellis worked for him when they had the ACL work, then Barry left and Pentalver was set up again doing mainly ACL work, the names Shamara and Maidber also have a connection I believe!
