Funny you should have said that Jeremy.I was about to comment on that very thing.Jim must have spent hours painting that model, but can,t spare five mins on the fence! I shall have to get in my buggy and gel off down there.Regards Charlie
Hi Thanks for all the kind remarks and you Charlie as for the fence the one behind has been painted last year !!
I’ll have you know ! But if you go out side the yard and look at the other side only half has been done I didn’t quite get to finishing it off, but I did promise my Mrs I’d get her a new paint brush for Christmas

Heres one of my first driver Stan Mathews who came to me from Whitehorns transport, i think the picture was taken in a cafe on the A4 just west of Calne as we used to take synthetic rubber to the old air field for ISR,we used to stop for a cup of tea and a bun in the afternoons,The truck came from Meachers when they had a sales outlet behind the bike shop in Totton, it was second hand ex Sibleys and was five years old when i bought it.Should be on Davies thread really but posting on here to see if any one knows where Stan is today.
Stan worked for Nunkey for quite while. Did he not go to Sea Route for a while after that?
Hi Gazzer you are right Stan did work for SRF packin rubber etc when they were in chickenhall lane Eastleigh, thats where i last saw him but have no idea where he is now. It was Stan who got me on rollups all those years ago that was after Players navy cuts went up to 31p for twenty, now that was a MH moment, given up now for over four years and the best thing i did.Just for old times sake hers a pic of him and me 1980 ish taking a break on our way to Italy.

Hi Buzzer, ainacs, great photos of Bakers ERF on the continent.
Here are a few more continental heavy haulage shoots of Bakers including Eric.
Hi LR Man seeing that pic of Eric Baker reminds me of him in the old Southampton ferry terminal when the ferry got in, if you worked for him the rates were not high but he paid when they disembarked of the ship and not many companys ddi that.
Well well well, the little fat man hisself! I worked for him with Bob Edwards when I first shipped out. He would stand in the terminal asking you how much currency you wanted in Francs or Lira to do the job and always cut you down so you were “lean”. Then he would write a cheque to the exchange bureau and make you sign the stub. A good business man but an awful manager! Show this to Scorey P and Pat will spit at the screen…or maybe throw his lump hammer at it!

Hi John
Mick Hennesey came in today as well as Pat Scorey.
Mick told me Stan went to Spain about a year ago to his brother John’s place.
The last place he thought he had worked was at the Esso Garage by Great Bridge Ind Estate at Romsey where he did nights but it was sold and he did not like the way the new owners ran the place so he left!
Regards Pat
