Baker’s last purchase was probably the red MAN that Pat Scorey drove about 1979/80 that was nicked in Milano (with load of Stainless Steel). There is a foto of it waaaayyy back. I can’t repost it 'cos i’m not at home.

Hi Charlieone hope your well mate, I’m sure you’ll get em charged up before Friday so leave some for me!!
Here Is a newspaper cutting given to me by my good buddy Peter Green, a sign writter from Southampton. Now then can anyone throw a light on this truck Test Transport■■?
Regards Jimski
I seem to remember that the V8 AEC was a shunter bought from Charlie Russett and was used in Sea Route Ferry’s yard in Empress Road I don’t think that it was used on the vroad and the lack of a tax disc would support this!

Hello R-JACKO,
Here is some pitures Bakers Volvo F89 6x4
…
Hello LR Man
Crackin photos of the F89 keep them coming.Did Phil have the F89 from new?back in this thread somewhere there’s a bit of history on the F89 and couple of its sisters ill try and find it and post it.
Regards Jacko
Hello R-JACKO,
Phil got the F89 when nearly new.
Before they got the Volvo, Ford let Bakers have Transcontinental 6x4 on demo. Phil had it for quite a while and thought it was great. It was rated at about 80 tons, not as much as the F89 but went like train, very manoverable and well on top of the job. Phil said Bakers were offered two Transcons for the price of the Volvo F89, however, Eric went for the Volvo.
The F89 and Phil had to work hard. This included them both going for a swim in a canal! One day in very heavy rain, the JCB’s on the flat he was carrying decided to overtake him. Next thing he had to swim for the river bank! Sparrows were doing a job nearby and Eric pulled in a favour and they lifted it all out. Phil was ok but the F89 needed some major repairs and it went back Prince’s the Volvo dealers. When it was finished, Phil had to go and bring it back but Prince’s would not let it go! Some kind of dispute!!! Eric was not too happy and went down himself and retrieved the motor.
Here are a few more photos.

To save us falling off the front page.Chris Hill pointed these pics out to me the other day
This was how HBM 529Y looked when Hills had it
Then it was stretched to become a wrecker

This has had quite a few owners!!!
Saw these old lorries on the wall of McGrattens bar in Dublin yesterday, anyone driven anything like these■■?
Regards Pat
Hi all well this old AEC went to Heywood and was used for shunting Bob bought it in Emsworth and used it to MOT Sea Route trailers, Test Transport was owned by Mr Kalfon and had 4 op licenses. This company was separate to Sea Route
Ferry but was run by Bob and Mr Kalfon to do all SRF repairs. The AEC had a non Turbo V8 Sabre lump, the Blue van that’s just in the pic is a Bedford HA fitted with a Cortina axle to try and make it “Terry Moody Proof” but knowing old Terry fat chance of that !!
Well that clears that up that mystery photo !!!
Thanks Bob !!
Regards Jimski
Heres one of my first driver Stan Mathews who came to me from Whitehorns transport, i think the picture was taken in a cafe on the A4 just west of Calne as we used to take synthetic rubber to the old air field for ISR,we used to stop for a cup of tea and a bun in the afternoons,The truck came from Meachers when they had a sales outlet behind the bike shop in Totton, it was second hand ex Sibleys and was five years old when i bought it.Should be on Davies thread really but posting on here to see if any one knows where Stan is today.

Hello LR Man
Ive now got the Revs issues with Bakers Transport in these are issue No.59 November 1998,issue No.55 March 1998,issue No.53 November 1997.
The later lorries Phil drove on Bakers the ERF Continental and the VOLVO F89 came after my dad had left.I guess the F89 would have been the last lorry he brought?Dad seems to remember Eric may have kept some of his lorries at his farm near the New Forest for years?
Do you have any more photos of the F89 you could put on.
I hav’ant posted for a while been busy posting photos on the Henry Smithers thread.Ive now got dads photos back so will post more Bakers photos soon.
Regards Jacko
I visited Eric at his farm at Woodlands and he had a 2 or 3 MAN’s there for a while!
Regards Pat
Hi all thought I’d give you a peep at my latest doings on the model scene of all the bygone hauliers of Southampton, one of BobCartwrights Scanias that i used to drive for him and many of you will remember the old SCAC trailers !! Not quite finished yet but nearly there !!
Regards Jimski
Hi Jimmer another fine model in the makin, just reminds me of when we worked for SCAC but when i started they had the old tandem stripped down tilts with little or no brakes, they loaded them with ATO chem in LeHavre so they never pulled em far, this is before the weight went up in 1983 and all hell broke loose when overnight they had loads comin in at 23 tonnes and no tri axle units to deliver. They broke the loads down and made a milk round out of the odd pallets removed to make the trailers legal for two axle tractors,in the end we had trucks converted to tri axle to cope with the work on offer, good old days them mate reminds me of MH again but ime not goin to start singin tonight.
Hi Buzzer yeah I know what you mean when you say “no brakes” as Bob Cartwright can back that up when one day I had a load of ATO in a trailer just like the model with Bob’s Mack up front all came to a sad end up the ■■■ of another wagon on my way to Luton, MH moment I think not just a bad ■■■ Day !!
Regards Jimski
Hi Jim
You might have bumped into my dad as he subbied for Bob when he had the Mack.
I was in short trousers in those days.
Cheers Rich

Once again you have surpassed yourself Jimbo - get a blue and red F88 in front of that Scac trailer! Can remember going with Dad doing ATO to Stalybridge and to Thatcham. A day trip during the school holidays was to Hook with Scac trailers delivering Poclain diggers. Buzzer would do the first one early, drop and swap in Pompy, back to the house and pick me up. Normally it was in the Bionic Bubble as Buzzer was the only one who would drive it! Mappo, Gooj and Dave Morgan used to do all the 'long haul’s up to Bolton / Rotherham Steelworks / and Scotland if he was lucky enough to be given them by Scac / RH&D. Also Ian Hall drive the early F12 if anyone can remember Ian.
