Loading shovel from Lisbon Portugal to Uk

Anyone know who would be the best to contact to see about getting it back? Anyone on here run down there with low loaders and roughly how much would it cost to drop to Holyhead,Liverpool,Heysham or Fishguard?
A brother of mine is looking at buying a volvo L150 about 25 tons, need it brought to Ireland but if it was dropped at any of the ports I could collect it from this side.
Any ideas?

Richard Long from Suffolk or Rowlands from Gloucestershire? They are 2 I can think of that do euro work on low loaders?

Grampian Continental are in the middle of a big job taking stuff to Tenerife on stepframes/ lowloaders, i think they are back empty

Or get it delivered to docks, as long as it drives on you could get it dropped off direct to Ireland

I was looking into that too but no direct ferry to Ireland and need it asap so by road would have to be the fastest.

Hc Wilson are another

Pm Richmond on here he might be able to help

MDF, Wilsons or Denbys I’d say. They were on the Santander boat a fair bit last year. Hope you got the shovel cheap buddy cos getting back won’t be :open_mouth: Depending on it’s overall dimensions, whether it just needs someone with the right permits already, as the Spanish are a bit slow to issue new trip permits, or escorting too. Then there’s the ferries  Might be cheaper to get it on the Cherbourg-Rosslare ■■? It’s a long old run up through France oversized to Calais and the Santander is a lube up and bend over price for anything out of gauge :imp: :imp: :imp:

jj72 on here is the oracle of these things

The shovel is coming at the right money for it’s age and condition,if the bucket is off it’s 2.8m wide so it’s not that big
Got a quote to Porstmouth by road, roughly 4,000 sterling,or 1,800 euro from Santander to Portsmouth, drive on and off the ferry, would’ve been 800 euro if it was only 2.5m!
Depends how much it would cost from Lisbon to Santander, and then Portsmouth to Liverpool as can ship it to Dublin from there for 360 euro, but like you and the shipping agent I spoke to said, they really know how to charge from Spain if it’s overwidth!!!

Gawd bless Brittany ferries they know how to extort the word monopoly

That’s about the price I was expecting ferry wise. 2.8 wide makes it easier as it won’t need an ■■■■■■, therefore the run up to Cherbourg wouldn’t be as bad mate so get yourself a price on that one too

One thing if you use Brittany though. Make sure your measurements are good, they like to get the tape measure out and ■■■■ your wallet if it’s over what you tell them. ■■■■■■ you right off how much they charge really as at 2.8 you’ll not be wider than a ferry lane but they’ll charge you for the best part of 2 lanes then squeeze you into 1 :imp: :imp:

What about the ferry to rosslare from Cherbourg ■■?

You mean the one I’ve already mentioned twice Mr Magoo

Just had a brain ■■■■   Have you tried Insight, the mob with the Magnums and MANs based in Spain ■■? Seen a few of them draggin low loaders about down there too

Ok I called around some companies yesterday,Richard Long don’t go there much,HC Wilson called me back within 5 mins with a rough quote, another company put me on hold and by the time I’d heard the same Bruno Mars song for the 3rd time I hung up,the others took my number but so far have heard nothing!
It really makes me wonder how some companies do business at all, fair enough it’s just a one off job but they don’t know that,I could be starting an import-export machinery business with regular runs and they’ve just missed a chance at it.I always call a potential customer back, alot of the time nothing comes of it but I’ve also picked up some nice work from a random call!

Thinking about hiring a trailer and running down for it myself now, should be able to get a load of agricultural machinery down to the south of France or maybe Spain so I’ll just have to sit down and do my sums!
Thanks fella’s for all your help, much appreciated, got your email too Phil and mailed you back  Also top marks to Chris at HC Wilson for the prompt reply, some others could learn a thing or two from how he does business!

You’ll probably need the chassis number of the trailer for your trip permits (remember you’ll need one per country and 2 for Spain if you are going to pass through the Basque), which can as I said be a bit slow to come(we do ours yearly) the Spaniards in particular always seem to check the trailer number against the permit :open_mouth: . Convoi Ex signage, beacons front and rear and load markers.
We don’t do much Porkyville so can’t help you with any specifics they may have and my notebook and convoi maps are in the truck
What height will she be running at BTW ■■?

I’ll drop you a PM in a minute with someone to call for specific info

Yep,still waiting for a call back

The height to the top of the shovel is 3.48m and if I take the bucket off it is only 2.8m wide and about 24 ton.
Will I still need a permit for 2.8m?
