Loading and unloading

He seems to be labouring* under the illusion that the word trunking has some sort of legal definition

Boom tish. I’m here all week, try the veal

Think that strikes me is, did the fella not know it was in contract when he started the job. I would think he did and was chuffed his boss wasn’t making him do this particular part of the job.

But he’s got no right to be salty that his new boss is enforcing the contract/job he signed up for.

Does any driver out there know of any company that has trunkers which insist that when trunkers are back from their runs and still have duty time left ie 12 hour shift, should help unload their trailer after docking on bay .Usually back in yard just before 5pm after 7am starts. HONEST ANSWERS PLEASE. THANKU.

Ok you want an honest answer. Don’t listen to the rest of the yes men on here. Brown nosers the lot of them. I would just march in the office after completing my trunk run and leave the keys on the bosses desk. Tell him if he wants it tipped just to get on with it himself. After all you a driver. Yes folks looking in on this, our Ken here is a DRIVER. He isn’t a warehouseman or anything else. He’s a highly skilled profeshunal driver. Clearly way above the rest of you on here. Good luck driver.

Just to add when you get sacked you can leave the industry and ■■■■ off to being a pot washer in a restaurant or something. Just get on with it you greeting faced walloper.

Personally i wouldnt do it…just clock off and go home…you`ve done your bit…tell the lazy warehousemen to pull their fingers out…then you wouldnt have to be asked or expected…in your next job…make sure they dont deliver to LIDL…or your gonna be there for hours.

I bet the warehouse staff don’t get to knock off before their contracted 8/12 hour shifts are up,

This is the real issue.
When I started working (not driving) a 40 hour week was normal and then that reduced to 38 hour. That was 35 years ago!! In many industries 35 hours is common now.
Drivers have other WTD regulations to other workers and employers are using them to create jobs where 12 shifts and longer are normal and wage structures mean that drivers have to work such shifts to make a decent living.
In this day and age it’s disgraceful that any worker is expected to work 50+ hours.

I should add tachograph rules as well as WTD.

If your paid for a 12 hr shift and you complete your driving in 10hrs and your contract states that you have to do other work to fill your 12 hr shift, can’t see the argument. Only two ways out of that one if you don’t like it is to either take a pay drop of 2 hrs per shift and go home if they agree or get another job where you are paid only to drive. Big point here is before taking a job and signing the contract, be prepared to undertake the contract you have signed for or risk losing your job regardless. It’s a silly question to ask on here and to expect anyone to think you are being hard done to. Get a union rep involved and he will sit with you on your disciplinary to ensure your sacked fairly.
