Load theft at gunpoint Thurrock services last night

msgyorkie:
We are not Nightwatchmen for the load so let them have it.
NOT OUR PROBLEM.
Go back to sleep knowing you will wake up alive in the morning!

This old guy had the right idea!
There was uproar when he was jailed, but released soon after.

“The right idea”?
Shoot a badly hurt man who is retreating away from you? presumably in the back?

I can understand someone having their “blood up” etc, but this guy apparently wandered off to a shed to get more ammo before shooting him dead?

No way am I defending thieves, but FFS, get a sense of proportion about it please.

I must have misread this somewhere…

Absolutely the right idea! If you put yourself outside of the law you should not be afforded the protection of the law. The ■■■■ head who was shot was undoubtedly a repeat offender and no doubt would have offended again. Who’s to say that the next gaff he was gonna knock over wouldn’t contain a sleeping single female and the thought wouldn’t occur to him “well I’ve gotten away with it so far”? …

Just as well hang first time offenders on double yellow lines with that logic: let 'em get away with it and they’ll come back and do worse!
Thin end of the wedge.

Edit.
I’d agree if you said first time offenders etc should be treated harsher sometimes to discourage further offending, yes. Some sentences are hardly a deterrent, which is the idea isn’t it?
But the Eire case? Too far for me.

A few years ago a trucker was awoken to his trailer being broken into. He stabbed and killed one of the guys. I just did a quick search on Google but couldn’t find it.

It’s local to me and from what I remember it was Wellesbourne, Warwickshire. Two or three guys, the one who died was the father of one of the others. The trucker said he had the knife for removing the skin from apples and acted in self defence. I believe he got off. Fair play

It’s 5yrs minimum sentence for possession of any unlicensed or unauthorised firearm or imitation firearm if used in the execution of a crime ! Tazers are classed as a firearm in the UK.

This thread interested me especially as a member of my family works at Thurrock services, strangely she says that no such robbery took place that she or any other member of staff is aware of.
There is absolutely no reports of this happening on the internet or any Essex news media or on Essex police twitter feed, I’m thinking that either the OP or his “mate” who witnessed this is ■■■■■■■■■■■!

Can you ask her instead why the place is such a ■■■■■■■■■

Don’t take his word as gospel he has been known to talk ■■■■■■■■ before now, just saying.

i ask because iv often wondered how "mitigating circumstances "works,in law. Earlier this year in a case of roadrage i was forced to a stop in my van onto the dirt/hard shoulder and then a few seconds passed and i judged the offender was getting from his cab and starting to approach my vehicle.i was correct , i spun my wheels and shot forward and missed mowing him down as he rounded the cab corner by a hairsbreadth. my thought was what if he had a knife or even just his fists and i had to get away.
Or just say [for arguments sake] he drew a gun as he approached me,but id got my own gun in glove box and i drew it and shot him first. its hypothetical but i feel id not wait to see

An Hungarian driver was parked overnight in Dudley a few year ago and 3 scrotes got into his cab and tried nicking the truck, he fought back with a knife and stabbed all 3 killing one in the process. He was up on a murder charge only for the CPS to throw it out as a case of self defence.
The 3 pondlife were well known to the police for doing this kind of thing, the one who got killed his family were up in arms over the decision. I and I’m guessing most on here were overjoyed by the outcome and one less bit of scum was irradiated from the gene pool.

I had 6 pallets of Russell Hobs gear nicked from Toddington s/b services about 3 year ago. There was nothing on the local police websites and Moto certainly didn’t go around bragging that a truck parked in their services had its load nicked… your point is?

Don’t park in services unless you want to get robbed or shot.

I think if something with a gun involved happened that night we would’ve read about it in the media.

Different story if a gun is involved than 6 pallets of Russell Hobs getting nicked.

I legally held an unlicensed handgun whilst master of a British registered ship until a few years ago as did many others but I got fined £1250 for going down the gangway and onto the quay with it, allegedly the gun was fired but forensics said it wasn’t so I never argued, I’m very glad now the intended target was missed by the bullet as he is now my brother in law and we work together on the same boat. I honestly though I was going to do some jail time but an understanding judge took note of the prosecution barrister even saying that I ‘‘was attacked by a crazy drunken mob’’ which I was, 18 to 1 is not good odds me thinks but having the gun evened the odds abit …

GasGas:
I think you’ll find most handguns have been illegal for most people in the UK for some time.

Farmer Tony Martin went down for shooting someone who had broken into his house…Martin’s gun was unlicensed.

Weapons are generally illegal, even in self-defence. Tools and equipment that you have to hand are not. Easy Start, fire extinguishers, heavy torches, wheelbraces, lengths of chain, hammers etc are all things that a truck driver could legitimately have to hand.

Don’t be tempted into buying one of those combined torch/tazer things…its prison if you are found with one in the UK.

At the end of the day, it’s safer just to let the scrotes go. The average police constable is paid rather more than the average truck driver, and they get better sick pay.

Yes his mistake was shooting the perp when he was leaving his property. had he shot them as they entered his property, self-defence could have been argued in court, depending on the circumstances

Should high-value goods be transported in curtain side vehicles,.

I seriously doubt that they would be covered by their GIT insurance, plus stopping whilst loaded in an insecure place, as you could be talking a value of millions of ££££

I was in a gang in Central America during the 70s. We all had guns. Rifles, we all had rifles.
And pistols, we had pistols too.
Mines, yes, we also had mines, Claymores, yes Claymores.
Light machine guns, yep, had some of those, General Purpose Machine guns…oh yes, we had 2 of those.
Wait, Artillery. What? Yep, Artillery. Our gang had FH70 105mm light gun. 6 of em. Air portable, on call, artillery support for my gang.
My gang had our own air support too, yes that´s right, we had our own Harriers on call. Yep, Harriers.
No-one ■■■■■■ with my gang. We all slept easy.

The opposition obviously wasn’t Mexican drug cartels in that case. :smiling_imp:

Never realised we had so many thigh-slapping gun-toting, rootin-tootin pistol types on here.

Maybe all those dream catchers in other cabs are the real deal from actual cowboy and Indian scraps
