I end up in Belfast at least once a week and have done for the last couple of years. I have never had any problems - in fact the people are great and my trucks on UK plates
no harm scanner you actually havent a clue about northern ireland and its culture towards trucks. Take your head from your hole and stop talking balls. Ive lived here all my life and have never heardoff discrimination toward your registration? The fact off the matter is, tensions do flare at this time off year, but never have truckers been targeted due to their, reg, creed or culture. After all loyalist/nationalists havent a clue who’s driving the truck? And further more there are more and more irish hauliers buyin ENGLISH plated trucks and not re registering them, so where does this stand on your targeting point? [zb]

Doh! Just clocked the date you’re on about… I imagine there will be other things to occupy your mind than road closures. The weather is likely to be very warm and tensions have been simmering since the recent “fleg” protests. From experience, the whole week of “the holidays” (as people refer to them) is best avoided. I wouldn’t advise travelling there at any time over the weekend. Could you not ship into Dublin and park near the border? Saturday night is likely to be very lively, if it is, Sunday will be too.
I advise against travelling after dark or parking overnight for those few days. Things are never as they seem and can get out of hand very quickly.
NB: The nationality of your vehicle or yourself makes no difference. You’re an outsider and that’s enough to single you out for trouble.
Trust me, I’ve lived it.
Sorry scanner but this post is pure dung.
Let’s wait and see what the weekend brings, shall we?
No need to wait. It’s very predictable, there will be some trouble tonight once they get the cheap beer down them but it only occurs in one small part of the city. Around 70 cruise ship’s visit Belfast every year. There’s one just arrived this morning with 4500 American’s on board. The city is buzzing with tourists so it’s not the scary city/province/region you have made it out to be.
And stop saying fleg. lol
There will be some trouble tonight in a part of the city. That’s okay then - unless it’s a place you’re delivering to. Who wants to be caught up in a recreational riot?
I promise not to say fl*g again

The above is absolute drivel…suppose you were SAS and then when you started driving you missed the HoFE due to traffic lights being stuck on red for 30 seconds.
I wish I had an imagination like yours.

There is virtually no chance of delivering during this time as everywhere is closed for the holiday. Honestly as a driver in NI its a very safe place

I was quoting Peter S. I agree, it’s a safe place but so it should be with the money spent on policing. At this time of year there are places only locals can go, that’s fair to say I think.
Have done NI for a bit never had any trouble and if unsure just ask will i be ok parking there for the night its that simple really. I try to use the local facilities too just keep ur head. Just remember if told I would park there tonight then move and stuff the tacho
Never had any trouble
So what was the craic ned on the boat ?

Because judging by your diction, you appear to be about thirteen years of age.
So. Thirty Police Officers injured last night, water cannon deployed tonight.
Man shot dead, MP hit by flying brick, four hundred extra Police deployed.
Anyone fancy a night out?

never seen any trouble

So it’s all fiction. All the video footage, TV/radio/newspaper reports. All made up. The people in hospital this morning are there for want of something better to do.
Yes indeed, just because you “never seen any trouble” we should take your word for it.
I think the point is that these ‘riots’ are very localised. If you are a couple of streets away you may not even be aware.
Back in the 80s, at the height of the troubles, I used to send a truck (with English plates) once a month to do deliveries to our branch in Belfast, and then on round the province. After that he crossed the border to deliver to Dublin and return direct from there.
The usual procedure was for him to pick up a guy from the branch to do all the talking in Belfast. It could be tricky sometimes, especially on building sites, and a local accent and knowledge was useful. After that he would drive all over the six counties and never had any trouble. Of course I picked a sensible driver who knew when to keep his gob firmly shut, and not react to any provocation. His biggest problem was getting across the border - that could take hours.

LOL this is pure nonsense I drive on Donegal plates and there are drivers on the boats who will not speak depending on what firm you drive for. Regularly when chatting to people on the ferries out of the North once ask who I drive for they suddenly see their long lost mate on the other side of the boat or will speak to you when on their own then blank you when their mates are around. At this time of year certain areas of Belfast are to be avoided on be Irish plates but to be fair both sides have their fair share of idiots.
It’s seems to be taking a strange twist up there this year as they seem to have fallen out with the Ivory Coast for some reason. They are burning gold, white and green flags instead of green, white and gold ones.
I would have thought the Ivory Coast was a bit far for a conflict to develop between Northern Ireland and them no?

I noticed that too ,[zb]
That boat was always called the floating lodge.
